A little (fiery) slice of Georgia

Thought I'd share pictures from my evening last night with my family. I arrived at Lanier National Speedway in Brasleton Georgia for an evening of school bus races and demolition derby. Lanier is a full-service racing facility --- asphalt track, full concession stand featuring frozen pickle juice and fried baloney sandwiches, and even the opportunity to participate in the spectator race. Note: Drifters can race as long as they have a helmet and a seat belt, drive American, and sign the release waiver.

The penultimate event of the evening was a stunt -- a 1986 Lincoln (sponsored by Spondivits
family restaurant) was going to drive through a mobile home.

Unfortunately, the teeny tiny piece of dynamite they used to create a "BANG" ignited the mobile home. With some big BIG flames.

Eventually the fire department came and put out the flames.
And the smoke cleared enough for us to all watch the demolition derby.

What a night! What a night! You CAN'T see that just anywhere.

I have NO idea why that first picture is upside down!

It's not if you turn your monitor upside down like I did.

Rats, I always miss the big shows. First the Biscuits and now this. Well, at least you had good seats and plenty of room to stretch the legs.

Back from 3RProgFest (Three Rivers ProgFest)... I can only say it was an awesome time.

Great Blog! Home safe after the wedding this weekend. The weekend was kicked off with my friend running out of gas on Grand Island Blvd. then we were 4 hours late for the rehearsal dinner and the bride was not happy with us.
We had an awesome time, the weather was beautiful and I have 38 mosquito bites to show for it!

You southerners sure do know how to party. I will forward this to a guy I know who works at Holland speedway. It may give them some ideas. Not a real huge crowd there. Looks like some golf today and back to work tomorrow. Enjoy the day all

Great Blog!!!
I do not believe that the word Pentultimate has ever been used in our blog??? Nor has a mosquito bite count ever been given, just goes to show you the HOLTZFAMILYBLOG reigns supreme.
So KDH, how many people were displaced when the mobile home burned down, cuz I am assuming someone lived there??
what a crazy thunder storm yesterday!
Enjoy monday, you really have no choice!

Dunkirk High School is looking for a social studies/history teacher, I know this because the girl it was offered to declined it to take a job in Rochester. I work with the girls mom, and she declined the job this AM.

I love it!!! A mosquito bite count. That is definitely a first on the blog and possibly a future trivia question.

Back to my good ol' luvable self after plenty o' sleep last night. Sandra, unfortunately, is not feeling as frisky as I am. Oh well, plenty of baseball tonight on the tube. AND, two of my pitchers are throwing.

speaking of Georgia... I know this is a conservative audience, but did anyone see Jimmy carter at the convention last night? more specifically his left eye? that sucker gave me nightmares!

Sorry, I missed the DNC last night... I was outside last night having a terrorist dump lighter fluid on my head and setting me ablaze, while pulling out my toe nails one by one with a needle nose plier... I found that to be less painful. hehehe.

So I quess that means you miss the honorable Ted Kennedy's speech also??
And Caroline Kennedy and Al Kennedy and all the other Kennedy's they dredged up??

So cookie is traveling today, and she is in St Louis, and she just emailed me and said " Everyone in St Louis is so friendly"!
Do you think that is true?
Everyone, absolutely everyone?

Does anyone seriously care about the DNC? It's a 4 day event when all they do is bash the Republicans. But yes I saw his eye!

Democrats they drive me to drink.

That's my slogan for when I run for Congress.

I am here to report that Grandma was all dolled up and used up the last of her ruby red lipstick waiting for her dear son to pick her up for a date today.

Unkie called his dear mother at 4 and reported the date was on Wednesday and not Tuesday.

Just for that I told Gram to wear her GW sweatshirt.

Oh boy, we can't have these communication gaps with todays technology.

We used ur comforter last night... was it that chilly or am I coming down with something? Brrrr... Is autumn arriving?

St Louis... the land of Lutherans, of course EVERYONE is nice there.

St. Louis was great! I saw the Gateway Arch, which was really cool! Way better than the Space Needle (not that they are comparable). Did you know it is the tallest man made monument in the country, standing at 630ft. It also has a museum inside of it about the Western Expansion. I wish I had more time to spend in there.
And seriously St. Louis has the nicest TSA agents I have come across in my travels! No scowls...only smiles!
