Gram's Surprise visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus
One day Gram had mentioned to me that she was "too old to see Santa." She also told me that with her vision she wouldn't be able to "see him anyway." So last Sunday I had arranged for a special visitor to see her. Santa and Mrs. Claus brought her flowers, a Tops Gift Card, and the infamous "popcorn balls." The moment Santa and Mrs. Claus walked in the room she beamed! She said, "I have been waiting for you all my life." Santa quickly replied, "I remember when you were just a little girl." The smile on her face was absolutely priceless. They visited with her for about 10-15 minutes. She said she had always wanted to meet and "kiss" the real Santa. She listened attentively to Santa as Christmas was right around the corner. It was a wonderful visit and we are also so thankful that Cathy and Aunt Betsy (mom) were present to see Santa as well.
We knew that Santa and Mrs. Claus were extremely busy getting ready for the "Big Day." Words can not express the appreciation and gratitude we have for the both of them. They are an amazing couple that made Gram's day. So rest assured Gram, you are never Too Old to see Santa.
It was the end to a perfect Sunday for Gram. Later she told us that she "could spot his red suit a mile away."

Happy Snowy Saturday! Great job daughter! And Mr and Mrs Claus were awesome! To quote gramma, for a brief moment, I was a little girl again! The magic of Christmas, we are never too old!
Have a great day family!
What a GREAT Christmas story We got back to find that the Christmas elf had ploughed our driveway, at least after the first round of snow, so I only had to navigate thru 6 or so inches of snow to the garage. We had a great time with the Quincy Holtzes and are glad to be back in WNY. Loved our day together on xmas. Happy New Year to all and to all a good night!!
A quiet week for the blog. Will this be the last entry for 2012? Hoping that everyone has enjoyed their week between the holidays. Was everyone out at the Ralph yesterday? Did Chan save his job with the big win yesterday?
A very happy New Year to all. I only missed seeing it by an hour and a half this year. Maybe next year.
Yesterday I was promoted to Team President of the Buffalo Bills. I do not take this position lightly. I have worked non stop to help turn this franchise around. With your help our fans can jump back on the bandwagon again. I have visited your blog on a routine basis. Most of the time I am at my desk and find myself catching up on the blog. I ask for your support as we search for a head coach. I know it has been 13 seasons since we have made the playoffs. At the next family gathering please predict our record to be above .500 next year.
Happy 2013, another new year, and another chance to get it right! I personally always like second chances! Had a very quiet news years eve and day for that matter.
Had GG over yesterday, had beer, beef sandwiches and bowl games, and bet an imaginary 50 cents on them! Not sure who the big winner was?
And of course I see Russ Brandon posted on the blog, good to know we are still a blog of choice in WNY! today back at work, and trying to get it together, but still in day off mode!
Hey at least its Wed! enjoy a short work week family, as the next day off seems kind of far away!
Happy Thursday! Or in Kaleida world, happy payday! Noticed my paycheck is short some cash and gas went back up the 4 cents it dropped before Christmas! Curious if everyone is annoyed as I am, with the russian roulette our govt plays with our money???
Sounds like the Bills are not leaving one stone unturned in their search for the next HC. Good Luck with that!
Enjoy the day and all that it brings!
Yes, the Christmas season is officially over and I am back at work, albeit for only one day this week. Yup, a 2.9% hike in taxes due to social security and medicare contributions. People are better off this way rather than squandering their money on foolish things like gasoline and food. Gotta love our elected reps as they kick the can down the road again. Enjoy the day.
Happy Friday, and I am busy planning my weekend already!
I wonder if my employer realizes how much time I spent at work thinking about things to do while I am not at work, and when I am home I think of things to do when I am at work.
so this weekend, Saturday will be a trip to the movies to see Les Mis!!! And Sunday is cousin Barb's 80th Birthday, so we are going to meet her and her family somewhere in between us and them.
So that would be Batavia???
and then of course tackling de Christmas-ing the house, so not a fun job!
Have a good day!
UGH to Monday's and back to work!
Had a nice weekend! Saturday was the movies, les Mis! Very Very good, if you like musicals and the French Revolution, and hey who doesnt! Met Barb and her daughter Trish for her 80th Birthday Party, at Alex's in Batavia! Lots of fun, gramma had a great time! food was very good, and cousin Barb brought all of us her handmade rugs! We rec'd more gifts than her and it was her birthday! Side note, when we went to visit Barb and Chuck over the summer, Barb always shows us what she is working on, and she such a craftsman! She had shown us a rug, beautiful lavender and gray hand hooked rug that was an art deco pattern, somewhat like what you would see in the empire state building. It was beautiful! So I immediately asked if I could buy it from her, and she politely refused, as she said it was one of her favorites! Well she gave me that rug yesterday! I am so lucky!
So we had a great time, great food!
And after Lunch, Barb was off to the casino to win some money! First full week of work, in awhile! Hope I make it to friday?
Pretty quiet on the blog...Bronx caught some type of nasty stomach bug and my weekend was spent cleaning up dog puke! Apparently you can't train a dog to puke in a bucket. At least my rugs got a thorough scrubbing this weekend.
Talked to Mom and she enjoyed her trip to Batavia but couldn't remember the restaurant-Alex's-good choice. Sounded like everyone enjoyed the day and the trip. Today auntie is off to Hotlanta for babysitting duties and I join her tomorrow after work. Looking forward to seeing our little ones and enjoying the promise of 70 degrees on Sat. We will see. My week is a short one teaching wise. Enjoy.
Happy Tuesday! Not much of a BCS bowl game for the number one spot, now was it! Unless of course, you are one of them there roll tiders!
so on Christmas Day, my S-I-L was kind and sweet enough to fill a plastic water glass with enough nog, for 3 days! Which was fabulous by the way! while the nog sat in this plastic cup, it permeated the plastic, just enough that when you fill it with water, you get oh so just the right hint of bourbon!. This glass will be returned when the bourbon taste is all gone! I currently use it at work, no questions asked!
Had an awesome lunch in Batavia. I wonder if Barb won big at the casino. Looking forward to the heat wave coming our way. Enrolled in fantasy hockey. That's all I have.
Arrived in Atlanta last nite. Out and about today with miss caroline as the girls are in school in shirtsleeves and 65. Nice change. Waffle House bfst. K and E were supposed to rent a jeep today to go off roading. We will see how that goes. They better make sure to take care of themselves. Auntie and I have a short shelf life..
Take care.
How fun! will you be able to fit in a round of golf? Just curious, I know AP can handle 3, 3 and under!
Holler if you need back up! 65 sounds fabulous!
Wishing my fabulous daughter a most happy birthday! I hope she has a great day! The official celebration will be Sunday, well that is when cake will be served, so that makes it the official celebration. Enjoy the day! And Happy birthday Jenna!
No big surprise party this year? The big 30 got last year off to a really great start. Happy b-day nc Jnn. I hope that you find lots of ways to enjoy your day I did get out for a round of golf today. Cloudy and upper 60's. I will take it. Girls have been real good but they do tend to tire out the old folks. I am already nervous about winter storm Gandolf. Why does the weather channel do this to me?
Happy Friday! Its 1-11! Thats fun
Had a nice birthday dinner last night for jnna, with the everetts and Mr austin, food was scrumptious!
Wating for it to be quittin time!
Who is excited for hockey to start??
Sabre store has everything half off, until the first game. If you have never been, take in a trip its a fun store!
Enjoy the day and all that it brings!
The Lilliputians have untied me just long enough to wish you a belated, yet sincere, happy, happy birthday.
Thank you all for the birthday wishes! I had an amazing few days. Spent Thursday working then had dinner with my family. Friday I took the day off and Gram took me to lunch. We had a really great time! I seriously hope that if I make it to 96 I look as beautiful as her. Looking forward to a relaxing day at home and then tomorrow a little birthday festivities.
Hoping that the sitters in Atlanta are having a great time as well. Give them all a hug and kiss from us.
Here at 431 we are all trying to avoid the neurovirus. It seems father and I have come down with the cold and there is a shortage of NYQUIL.
I just quess you wil never know what you will find here?
UGH to Monday! The bubonic plaque has hit 431. Geo sounds like he died two weeks ago, Jnna looked like she died to weeks ago, and Austin wished he was dead! So needless to say I had to cancel Sunday Club with Mom, and she was not happy! But with the aroma of flu in the air, she knew better!
Lots going on this past weekend, and the weather was amazing!
Hosting a Sabres must win party on sunday, if everyone is healthy, of course! Not to many of my team choices won yesterday or the day before, for that matter.
Enjoy the day, hoping my Bro and S-I-l get home before Gandolfini arrives!
Welcome Christian Louboutin sale!
Had part of "missedmas" outside yesterday in the 75 degree temps. Auntie has the bug and is miserable. It is raining here as we await later departure. Jefferson is off to the dentist, the girls were on their way to school and I am going to sit outside and finish my coffee before its back to WNY. Sorry to hear about all of the health problems at 431. Get well soon.
I'm very happy to be able to get out of bed. Even though I received the flu shot, I believe I was among the 65% of western new yorkers who have gotten the flu. A huge kudos to my dear mother who would run from room to room tending to all our needs. There were plenty cough drops, NyQuil shots, cold cloths to go around. I absolutely hope that none of you get sick like that. Hope you feel better auntie! There is nothing worse than traveling when you are sick!
Busy Busy day, as I did not get my normal AM post in! hate when work interfere's with life!
Hope my bro and his lovely wife got home safe and sound, and none the worse for wear!
Hope you are feeling better, auntie!
I have to tell you all, but lets keep it between us, taking care of all the sick people at 431 started to wear a little thin! And I love them all more than life itself, but one more request for ice chips and I was ready to throw myself off the roof!
Unlike the teacher who sued because she was forced to teach and she hates kids, I recognized early on, that I really did not want to take care of sick people, hence I am not a nurse!
Wash your hands frequently!
So my husband who never calls in sick, called in sick! So the ill continue to be ill at 431.
Hump day! Kind of a lot of work to do today, and I have some meetings to go to offsite, and I have very little to no gas in my car, now I saw this yesterday and this AM,but what is the reasoning behind procrastination re fueling up? Not sure if I have the ans to that? Other than that, Niagara Hose chowder this saturday, which means that will be Anastasia's dinner on Sunday for our Sabres must win party! Enjoy the day, and remember sneeze into your sleeve and wash your hands!
Hey family! Its back to real life in the ATL, with that pesky work thing. The holidays were great and Eric and my trip to ARUBA was fabulous. Super giant thanks to nonna and pop-pop for their time with the girls, who are going through massive grandparent withdrawl as we speak. An extra shout out to mom who got a hearty dose of flu germs as a depature gift. Sorry mom!
Jefferson got his braces on Monday morning and to date we've been to the orthodontist three times for popped wires. OUCH.
Maybe I'll do an Aruba post? There's some great videos of me swearing at Eric as he drives our jeep off road.
'Was that my nc jnn that I saw yesterday driving past wallenwein's in EA about 4:30? Hope that everyone in Tona. is on the mend. Auntie is still battling the plague and I am looking forward to a long weekend. Be careful out there.
thusrday sure took a long time getting here, did'nt it!
Not to much going on, georgy went back to work today, but it was touch and go! Other than that, not to much else. I rec'd my and mine sister's Philadelphia Flower Show tickets in my email the other day, she's called me, I call her, just can not seem to connect??
Any update on the " I'm turning 70 Bash"????
Any thoughts to Anastasia's birthday, I have told her a thousand times, we are not doing anything, so technically we dont have too....
A Aruba Blog, that would have sun, and green plants, and more sun.. Now that is something to look forward to!!
Hello, hello. I apologize for my infrequency on the blob.
Incredible.
I really don't think the iPad is blob friendly.
So everyone here is healthy and happy. Zach started soccer on Monday. Emma has art class on Monday making me the taxi service from the moment I get home until late at night. Thank goodness I can get a beer at the Garden View on Main St during his practice at night.
JT
I apologize for mispelling Thursday!
I'm sorry for being one of the pretty people
JT
6:18AM! Yikes that is early blogging commenting time! Brr, had a very cold walk into Buffalo General this morning! Uphill on Ellicott is a killer! So very excited its friday! So I have my instructions for apps for the I am only 69 birthday party, and now per the hosts request, for giving a card only, I am wracking my brain for a clever card idea, so this is what I have come up with so far: Compiling in ascending order # of Tools, 1=hammer, 2= Nails, and so on and so on? thoughts? Getting a carpart off a 57 chevy and writting happy birthday on it? thoughts?
A singing telegram? maybe Sandra can do it? Or one of her sisters if she is too busy?
As a Hallmark Card, is just not going to cut it for a man who has done so much for our family, just by marrying my sister!
I am open to any and all ideas!
Keep warm, hydrated and stay away from sick people!
Uh Oh, can not find the lid to my chowder kettle??? Will a pie plate do??
Or tin foil?
So I tried to get the rink going and my spigot was frozen last night... Aaaaaaaargh!
Happy Monday! Yea to a Sabres win!
How does everyone feel about the brothers bowl??? Hey at least its not the cheater cheater pumpkin eater!
Had a great Sabres must win party!
Anastasia had fun! She will not becoming to the At least I am not 70 party, as it is suppose to be super cold, and snow and it will be dark, and to quote her, she does not do dark??? Not sure what she means by that? Have a very productive Monday, if you have to work. If you are home, have a second cup of coffee!
No GG?
I guess I don't have buy Schlitz then.
My spigot is still frozen, no water for the rink. The season is over in the backyard.
Keep warm everyone.
JT
Frozen spigot? I can not believe that your dad, who is Mcguyver in so many ways has not come up with a device to unfreeze your spigot that consists of duct tape a paper clip and some other obscure object!
I was outside for 45 minutes striking stick matches. Ya think that might of worked.
JT
What about a blow torch? I would think a blow torch would work perfectly! Is it me, or are stick matches not as long as they used to be? Just curious
So my mom cleared everything up for me at our Sabres Must Win Party, see I thought UG was going to be 70, that he is older than my brother, but no, apparently no one is older than my brother, oh except my mother of course, and seriously no one is older than her!
so this really is his 69th birthday party. BRRRR it was a very cold very cold walk into work today! 21 more days til pitchers and catchers report, now how exciting is that! I am here to tell you, nothing is more exciting than the anticipation of BASEBALL!
well maybe the anticipation of Christmas, or Thanksgiving, or UG's I am never turning 70 party.
But it rates right up there!
Hey its Wed, and its all down hill from here!
Very excited for Friday!
So "the plan" was for us to fly to Ft. Lauderdale yesterday, drive to Don and Bonnie Wagners in Naples to stay with them for a few days, return to Miami and finish up the week there. That was before, of course, the arrival of the plague at 1070. Cancelled the tickets, car, visit, etc., woke up this AM to a minus 8 temp. and am looking forward?? to snowblowing the drive. Garage door opener has stopped opening and replacement has been ordered. Woe is me. It's all about Holtz luck and on top of all of this my own sister can't think of anyone older that she knows with the exception of my own mother. On a happier note, I am predicting, based on what I have seen so far, that the Sabres will
go 40-6-2 in the regular season and then 16-3 in the playoffs. I know there may be skeptics out there but...
So sorry the plaque has crept into EA. The bright side its not fatal, you just wish it was! Your cancelled trip sounds fabulous, maybe next year! It was a white knuckle drive into work, and the snow continues to fall, I quess its winter! I did think of something older than my mom, cereal! Cereal is older than she is.
I am quessing our birthday boy is reading my brothers post and stating the sabres will go 23-25 and not make the playoffs!
Stay warm, stay hydrated, and next week it should be 40 degrees!
Talked to Mom and according to her the bug has hit the Pilaf residence. Sorry to hear that plus the still frozen spigot? Hope everyone/thing heals/thaws quickly and I am shocked that my sister would question my ability to predict results for Buffalo sports teams. I like to think that my record speaks for itself. Stay warm.
Emma and Sandra are still sick and Franco Francisco is still dead.
The not celebrating 70 birthday party has been called off due to illness. What a shame. It would have been fun.
I'm sorry Auntie and Unckie your vacation has been put on extended hold/ canceled.
JT
I still do not have any plans for tonight, is the party still off, just checking?
wishing my brother in law, a most happy birthday!!! Here is hoping you have a fabulous all around wonderful birthday, however old you are!
And the Sabres will win tonight!!!
I may have to revise my prediction about the Sabres. Howis nphw jff's spigot issue coming along? Inquiring minds need to know.
Was quite the white knuckle ride into work, I can honestly say I have never hydroplaned before, until this morning!! Anxiously waiting for the 50 degree's!
So Sunday Club was cancelled due to Anastasia not feeling well. Seem the winter bugz have caught up to her, as everything hurt for her! So she stayed home, sipping ginger ale lamenting the slumping Sabres! Called her this AM, and she said she felt a touch better.
So we will resume next Sunday with our Super Bowl Bash!!
So Mr Austin had his road test this morning and he passed! So he is very excited! So dont be surprised if he shows up at your door!
Heard the birthday boy had a great birthday and was not at all unhappy that the festivites were put on hold!
Again, stay healthy if you are and if not get better! Pitchers and Catchers report in 20 days!
Was very happy that my schedule did not require me to partake in yesterday's drive time. Talked to Mom too and she went on at length about the miraculous qualities of ritz crackers and ginger ale, apparently on a par with tamiflu. Who's to question it? Austin driving? Time does fly. Enjoy the day, it's the only one we have today.
So today it is 65 degrees! crazy crazy weather!
so the sabres lost, and lindy ruff still has his job, what is up with that??
Anxiously awaiting our newest Holtz! Other than that, wish there was some sun with this nice warm weather!
Have a memorable one!
It was 2 hands on the wheel at all times all the way in this morning, and then it took a Zamboni to get me across the parking lot. A most interesting start to the day. Can't wait to see what else is in store. Enjoy.
I am quessing that my brother should adjust his schedule in concurrance with the weather channel! That way days like today would be enjoyed from his front window! I agree, this was a wind tunnel with pelting ice rockets!
Brutal!
Drive safely, 2 hands on the wheel!
I would agree that my work schedule should be built around the daily weather, but I can't get them to buy into it. So help me on this. Do I root for the team with good guy Ray Lewis, or the team with good guy Randy Moss? Is it significant that at the one-eight pole of the NHL season? or what ever they are calling it, that the Sabres are in last place in their division? Is it meaningful that the guy who apparently is going to be our new family doctor grew up on Wheeler St. living across the street from Don Kowsky, is best friends with the son of the late (which I didn't know) Al Henningham and used to have a part time job cleaning the Eldridge Club? Should I be looking forward to driving a group of kids to St. Francis H.S. this afternoon? These, and a lot more questions to follow, not least of which is when will my d-i-law head for the hospital? I guess that is more of my son's problem. Ad astra per aspera.
Ad astra per aspera!!!! What the heck does that mean???
Through struggles to the stars. I thought that everyone knew the state motto of Kansas. In the spirit of full disclosure I always thought that this was the motto of NYs. dummy me only found out recently that our motto is excelsior. Silly me
I am quite cantakerous this morning. I had began to write this rather long ramble on the blog and I hit publish and poof it disappeared. Happy Friday everyone! I am proloning going to work as I tossed and turned thinking of an excuse I could use to get out of working; but I fell short and came up with nothing good.
2/1/13, sounds like a great day to have a baby! Sending Amy and Adam good vibes and hoping to hear news today or tomorrow.
I talked to gram last night she has predicted we will have another girl. She also predicted we will hear news by Sunday. She was quick to mention that February is her birthday month, but she would "share if she had to."
Mayor Ed Koch has died. I hope we made it in his will.
My unckie did not know the state motto was excelsor! I think that was a are you smarter than a 5th grader question.
Stay warm everyone and drive safe to work.
Thank you Sabres for finally winning last night!!!!!
The last announcement at 431 about Ed Koch was that he was in intensive care! Good thing they moved him!
I concur, Feb 1st is a great day to have a birthday!
When I googled who celebrates a birthday on Feb 1st, they were listed in this order: 1. Pauly Shore. 2. Lisa Marie Presley 3. Clark Gable and number 4 Bob Shane of the Kingston Trio. Seriously, Pauly Shore got top billing over Clark Gable???
I have to admit I gave up on the Sabres last night when they fell behind 3-1. Austin rec'd all of his graduation info last night, so keep June kind of clear, for a graduation bash! More info forthcoming!
Keeping Amy in our prayers today, that Oliver and Audrey's new sibling comes more sooner than later!
Hey its Friday, and you know what that means! A 48 hour reprieve til we do it all over again!
Still no word from Quincy. Anyone else like to trade their med. numbers with Mom? Looks like the white stuff is migrating north for all of us to enjoy. I need a reason to watch sunday's game. Someone please help. No spigot updates? Anyone else in the winter doldrums? Oh well.
It was a conspiracy I tell you to keep me up an extra 30 min. I needed all of the rest I could get after that exhausting Sabres game and I was kept up until 11. I will need to make up for it by catching a nap or 2 at work today. Enjoy it, it's a cold one.
mmm thats interesting as I had posted comments from my Kindle, and they did not appear? So lets recap, the 6" of snow was enough to keep Anastasia housebound, this past weekend, to much snow, too slippery, too everything! But I did pick up her groceries, so she is ritz cracker and soup well stocked! Not the best of superbowls, not the worst of superbowls, and I certainly did not see the end of it! Hope everyone won some money!
UGH to Monday!!
Welcome to the world Benjamin! Congrats to Adam, Amy, Oliver and Audrey! He is a handsome handsome guy! A benefit of facebook that we got a peek at him immediatley!
So Jenna called Gramma yesterday when Adam texted her, stating " It was GO TIME, meaning he was taking Amy to the hospital, So Jenna called gramma and told her it was GO TIME, Gramma said, Whats on Showtime??? The misappropriation of the english language never gets old!
Congrats to my brother and S-I_l!
Cause today, its all about the Benjamins!
I thought that I had posted my welcome to little (I don't even know if it is going to be Ben, Benjamin, or something else. I had better look into this) yesterday. Seems like I caught a cold on top of the cold that I can't seem to shake. All that and shoveling to look forward to tomorrow.
so I called in Wed and thursday as I was not feeling that well, and today I decide to come to work! Just curious what the ride home will be??? so I am quessing brother, you and your lovely wife are not driving to Quincy to help out today?? Hope amy and the baby got home OK, and everyone is doing well?
And the Sabres mustered out an overtime win, that was good news!
Otherthanthat, hope everyone has hats and gloves ready, as you will need them!
So the Quincy Holtzes lost power at 8 last nite and are still without. Needless to say that it made for a sleepless nite here too. Just talked to Adam again and he tried to start digging out. Amy's parents have power but the problem will be getting there. Keep them in your thoughts please. I feel guilty fretting about the 4 inches I have to move from our driveway. Over a foot in the northtowns. Anyone for pond hockey?
We will keep Quincy Holtz's in our thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted. We managed to order dinner, pick up dinner and shovel the driveway. We have about 8-10 inches here.
Taking in a movie and lunch with mom and jll.
OK lets fed ex a generator! How much could that be? OMG, 3 little ones and no TV well OK that is bearable but the no heat part, is the worst! Keeping them in my thoughts and prayers, and hoping that they get there power back quicker than SI did after Sandy.
Just snow here, not bad, as geo has been doing all the shoveling!
Is spring only 6 weeks away?
Auntie worked her magic and after numerous calls and pleading we got them a room at the Hampton in Quincy. They are currently sitting in the WARM lobby area waiting to get into their room. Somehow Adam was able to drive them all there without getting arrested. Suffice to say, we are breathing a little easier.
Thank you for the update! You guys must have been beside yourself with worry. Hope there is a pool for Mr o!
OMG, what a weekend! Kind of glad its monday! Hoping Adam and Amy have their power back, and Adam was able to free his car from the avalanche that was on it!
So any thoughts to Anastasia's birthday??? When I asked her yesterday, she had stated we had done it all? that got me thinking, had we done it all? What is left to do to celebrate her birthday? I am open to any and all suggestions?
Have a great monday folks
Mom was not happy to hear that auntie and I are heading for Boston on the 21st to meet Benjamin. Auntie is staying on to help out as Audrey has to go in for tubes in her ears on the 25th. I have to return to work, that is, of course, barring another N.E. blizzard. So we are probably going in at some point early next week to see Mom and probably do lunch or dinner, whatever she wants. That being said...Other ideas?
