A picture is worth a thousand words and memories we will forever cherish.
Left to right:
Lillian, Momma, Fred, Grandpa, Corrine, and Bessie.
Our cousin posted this picture on social media. It was the first time many of us had seen this. We questioned the year, Eleanor thought 1930 (but, grandpa would have been 12). She checked the back of the photo and no date was indicated.
Later on in the evening, still we discussed it. I told Eleanor that I thought it was 1943. Gramps looks to be in his military uniform. Eleanor asked what made us think that year, we explained. She messaged us back and said she looked at the photo again and there was a date, June, 1943.

I just had never seen them all together and I was wondering where their Dad was? As I thought he had passed in the 1950's? But thank you daughter for posting!
This is our 313th Blog! I think we all need to think long and hard about our 500th!
I am thinking we will arrive at that point some time during the year 2025!
We are 187 blog's away from 500, we do about 2 a year, so you do the math!
Think about what can we post in the year 2025! I am expecting great things from my amazing family!
sigh.... I'll probably still be working
I had never seen that picture either. My understanding was that Grampa Holtz had died in the middle to late 1930's but I could be wrong on that. He was gone before i was born though. We won't be able to go chowdering on sat. with a previous commitment, but hope that my sister can get a long lunch hour on thurs. and join us for lunch. I am already down on winter and by my count we have 38 days to go before winter's official launch. How depressing. Love the new blog pic tho.The previous run of 8 months had become a bit weary. Transferring all of my loyalties to the UB teams. Bball in top 25 and football team getting close. Will be interesting to see where peterman lands, if anywhere. Do take care.
Happy Happy Birthday Rick Scott Rice! Oh did I mention its your 50th!
I hope you have a great day!
So apparently a storm is heading our way. Stay warm, safe and dry all!
Geo is feverishly trying to get all the leaves cleaned up, not sure if that will happen or not! I am not going to complain about snow, as at least we are not driving through flames to save our lives!
Was suppose to meet work friends tonight, but Jenna got sent to Cleveland on a business trip yesterday til tonight, and George and I have to man the food basket prep for the St Francis OutReach Center. So that will be our evening!
So the Everett Twins continue to catch every known illness to man, as Henry has been sidelined with pinkeye!
Here is hoping the twins stay healthy for at least the weekend!
So Jill has been our official Thanksgiving dinner maker, since the twins have come along, she has done the turkey, oyster dressing, and I do the sides, and pies.
So she asked me what size turkey to get and I told her 30 lbs, which she did get, and I told her I was just joking! 22lbs would have been fine for 5 adults and 2 children. BTW, the recommended turkey size for that size group is 10 lbs...
Poor UB! Stinker of a game last night!
I think you are right about Grampa Holtz, brother....
The one thing that strikes me about that picture is that none of them look alike?
Dad looks like no one, as does Lillian, or Freddy for that matter? Its funny as I think Cathy looks just like Corrine and I never thought that!
Oh well, one week from today is Thanksgiving
So whatever your plans, enjoy, be with people you love, and be thankful!
And remember, this was by far Anastasia and Charles's favorite Holiday!
Cheers to you Rick!
Hope that rick got the email pic sent yesterday with the birthday wishes from our lunch with the fixxitts. Sorry that my youngest sister was unavailable but since sue and i now constitute a planning majority for family events we did reach some decisions for dec. events which I hope will work for the folks at 431. Not surprisingly with Mr. Fixxitt choosing location we found a luncheon gem. Lunch for 2, wines-plural, beers--very plural, and i think the bill with tip was around $8. That's a slight exaggeration, but not by much. This morning was supposed to be the first annual Parkdale elementary 'turkey trot' which was cancelled at the last minute for weather reasons. I am sure that Miss Audrey was not disappointed and i was ready to go stand in the snow and cold to cheer her on, but it was probably a good decision. First shovelling of the season but probably not the last. Sorry to hear of all of the ailments in the Everett household. Mend quickly. Sorry again that you couldn't join us and equally sorry that we won't be seeing you tomorrow. Have fun chowdering all. Happy weekend to all
Hey its Monday, and the Bills did not lose at least and the Sabres have a win streak going, so that's good!
THANK YOU for the Chowder party, nephew and lovely wife! THANK YOU for the chowder making, brother in law! Per my sister, she did very little for this event.
Holtz Family Christmas, So I did tell my sister no,when she told me the Koch family was chosen, HOWEVER in speaking with George and Jenna, they both committed to helping, so Christmas at 431 is a go.
It will be held, Saturday December 15th. Starting time at 3, if snowing we can start at 4. We can begin Tailgating at 2 if desired.
But here is the kicker, no one brings a morsel of food or drink.
All apps, main course, deserts and liquor, beer, drink boxes, water, soda, cider, glutten free beer, diet pop, juice, and any other libation you can think of will be provided. All food will be provided.
I don't want anyone schlepping anything other than there amazing pirate gift!
Copy that..
Menu will be simple, easy, tasty and ready when all arrive.
Any questions, concerns or issues, please hold til after the event, and it can be discussed.
I want everyone to enjoy the day, and not worry about food and drink..
Kristen will be in town as well, so it should be a great party!
I will text Adam and let him know as well! Lets get through Thanksgiving first!
Enjoy this week all!
FYI to my brother, my sister never mentioned to me where lunch was, maybe next time? Or is lunch suspended over the winter months?
Enjoy today and all that if brings your way!
Follow up:
Emailed Adam, and he replied expeditiously and enthusiastically with a YES!
He and his amazing family will be in attendance!
So far the only person I have not invited is my sister, but I will see her on Thanksgiving!
So we started Thanksgiving week with lunch at Chef's and a stopover at the new Labatt brewhouse. The brewhouse is quite an improvement for the area which is becoming a bit of a destination in itself. It certainly is in a great location. Always enjoy chef's and with enuf leftovers for dinner on wed. nite. Sorry to have missed the chowderthon and I am sure that everything was delicious as always. Holiday season is rapidly approaching with all of the related festivities. Go Sabres!!
Good morning!
I tried blobbin' yesterday but work kept on getting in the way. Grrrrrrr...
So, hear I am today.
Chowder-Thon was fun and it seemed everyone really enjoyed themselves.
We're in for Holtza-Christmas 2018!
We will have to bring something though (because half of our household has Gluten allergies)
Soooo, I'm not asking, I'm telling you you DO NOT buy Gluten Free beer. I have a basement full of it AND Sandra has actually been in a wine mood lately and Zach doesn't really drink beer. Emma on the other hand is a lush.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!
I’m not sure I committed to helping out for our Holtz Christmas. But, whatever my mom says. In other news I’m on the hunt for a major award. My pirate gift. The pressure!
Did the winner of the lint rollers need to be replenished?
Looks like we are rolling in the holiday season in style. Hope that everyone has a wonderful day. Auntie is working me like the proverbial rented mule so I have limited time to post. Enjoy the day!!
Happy Day After Thanksgiving! Who's going shopping, I know Sandra is. I'm not.
That scene is not for me.
Sharon and Mike are in town so we're heading out for lunch and walking Elmwood Village with them.
Yesterday's Turkey was FANTASTIC! Good food, good family.
Enjoy your day! GO SABRES! Enjoy your weekend!
Sabres?? UB Football?? Now the Bills?? All winners. This must be what it feels like to live in New England. Now the dilemma. November golf. Called Terry Hills and they were letting people out today. Question; do I go there tomorrow and play, and worry about december later? Or do I go to plan B which involves driving south on friday and finding an open course and staying over to play on saturday to cover two months? Decisions, decisions. Hope that everyone had a most enjoyable thanksgiving holiday and for those going back to work tomorrow that it is not too painful. Take care all.
So its get through it Monday as best as you can! After a long long weekend!
Bills won! Yahoo!
Too Bad the Jets could not Rise UP and beat NEP! notice reference to Rise Up, as we did go see Hamilton last evening and it was phenominal!
So enjoyable!
The music, the crowd, all of it! Just lots of fun!
Sabres are still winning, and they are considering selling beer at UB sports functions, life just keeps getting better and better!
Jill cooked an amazing dinner on Thanksgiving and oddly enough we are still eating off of our 30 pound turkey! I know go figure!
Did see my sister on Thanksgiving Eve, and she is a go for Holtz Family Christmas on Saturday December 15th. So it appears everyone is in the know!
Looking forward to that event!
Brother it appears bad weather is looming, I think you have to cover November tomorrow and worry about December at a later date!
Update information for Holtz Family Christmas: Dress is casual, note that.
Please continue to review the Blog as updates to Holtz Family Christmas will be made available when they happen!
Time goes by so fast!
Enjoy today... Before we have to shovel!
So the first somewhat snowfall always makes for an interesting ride into work!
Elmwood Ave was backed up to Home Depot this morning, not sure what the issue was, but that quick jaunt up to Great Arrow, took over 20 minutes! My normal 16 minute ride to work was stretched to 35! UGH
I wonder if just before we enter the Pearly Gates, there is a pie chart of you life, and time spent in traffic is carved out? Just wondering?
Again, the Sabres win! How fun is this getting!
After last year...
So we are in full planning mode for Holtz Family Christmas!
this weekend, we have penciled in getting our tree! so lets see if this can be accomplished, sometimes our task list gets pushed aside to do other fun things!
But we are trying to stay on track!
Other than that, the Sabres win, its snowing, and November is almost over!
Enjoy today as best you can!
Looks like it is going to be Plan B. If I was on Facebook I could broadcast live ala pumpkin carving contest/Hotlanta, but that isn't going to happen. From the snowcover map it looks like Lewisburg, pa. We will see. Other than that, i got the foot or snow out of my driveway thanks to my currently functioning, knock on wood, snowblower. November almost gone and December coming on fast. Since nov. 8 Bills, sabres, ub football and basketball (men's and women's) 22-2, the kind of record that we are not real familiar with around here. Keep it up teams. It makes for a much more enjoy11able time. Xmas shopping just around the corner, according to auntie. We shall see. Enjoy!!
Sandra is going to Hamilton tonight! Again!!!
I can't wait. We'll have a great time. Tonight will start our "Anniversary Weekend" (I know, we're early). We both took off Friday and are heading off to parts unknown (well, for Sandra at least ... I know where we're going).
Awesome! I keep trying to win the lottery for the 20$ tickets and so far no luck!
Have an awesome weekend!
Maybe you can drive down with Unky to golf?? that would be so fun!
And another week is upon us. Hope that nphw and the missus enjoyed their anniversary weekend. Proud and happy to report that all went well on my little road trip altho the weather yesterday here was a lot better than anything that I saw. Seems as if the Bills and Sabres have done a 180 since last week. The official Christmas shopping season has begun. Amy and Patti have plans for tonite for a shopping trip for the west falls holtz clan. Mercifully I am being left out of the plans. Looking at all the homage being paid to 41 must be giving 45 a little cause to stop and ponder, at least one would like to think. Have a good one all.
Happy Tuesday! So what a beautiful Sunday, it was! Got a lot of our lights up, still need a little more razzle dazzle however!
Took a few days off, to get ready for the big day! And you never get accomplished what you hope too!!!
But none the less back to work! Work lunch at Chef's today, so that is always something to look forward too!
Other than that, looking forward to our Holtz Family Christmas!
Enjoy today, and I guess some snow is on the way!
I agree with my brother, the reflections for #41, should give some a moment to pause...
enjoy this day!
Sandra had a fantastic time on her "anniversary" weekend. We went to The Belhurst Castle and I gave her a tiara to wear for the trip... she loved it! We explored, shopped, did a few wineries and enjoyed everyone else enjoying The Deck The Halls Weekend on Seneca Lake.
I love this blog picture! Such a great picture of all of them, and a nice reminder of where we came from!
Think I am getting a cold?
Snow is on the way! bundle up buttercup!
No new updates for Holtz Family Christmas Extravaganza. I do need someone to bring toothpicks however? Can I assign that task to someone?
So, update...
Sara, John's youngest, called me on Sunday, and she let me know, that Louise's second husband, in essence the only father Sara really knew, and the other younger kids, had passed away. So in essence, they had lost two fathers this year, so keep them all in your prayers!
Other than that, enjoy Wednesday!
I/ we will definitely keep them in our prayers. (That's a bummer of a year).
Nothing else going on, Christmas shopping, Christmas Hallmark watching and Christmas cookies.
Quiet day at work!
Snow settles everything right down, doesn't it?
So other than snow, quiet at work, and getting ready for Holtz Family Christmas, version 2018. Not to much else is going on!
Jenna's friend Jackie is in from Idaho, so it has been enjoyable visiting with her!
Hosting a mini cocktail hour tomorrow, was hoping to have my tree up, but no such luck. And with this snow, probably not getting it tonight either.
Other than that, still shopping for the elusive pirate gift???
What does one get a family member that has everything???
mmm, Michele Obama's new book??? Cigars? Christmas Decorations? Candy?
Note paper and pen??? So hard to decide on the perfect pirate gift!
I guess you all will just have to wait and see...
HFC, Version 2018 T minus 10 days and counting!
So I guess that the great question to be answered is, what was worse? The Sabres yesterday or the Bills today? On to a happier topic. Atlanta girls due in within a week and a get together to be anticipated within a week, all good things. A rough year for the Cape Cod Holtzes. Sorry to hear of their additional loss. hope that some things are going well somewhere. hang in.
And yes its Monday! So we are within one weeks time for our Christmas extravaganza!
So looking forward to our big day!
And the weather looks promising, no impending gloom and doom, or snow either!
So the Sabres were beyond putrid! The Bills, were also an UGH!
But the highlight of the weekend, the absolute high light was the way the PukePatriots lost! That was fun to watch replay after replay of that!
Other than that, not to much else is going on...
Just getting everything together for our Hey its not on Christmas Day, but its still our Christmas Party!
get through the week as best as you can!
Have seen probably 20 replays of the Dolphins final play and cannot get enuf. Gronk played it as I probably would have in my prime. oh the humanity!! On a happier note, the original plan had 3 oclock, 4 oclock, and a 2 oclock element for this saturday. Which plan will we be operating under?? Can't wait for the official opening of the Christmas season. Til then....
The last I heard it was 3PM on Saturday.
Wait! What's the official opening of Christmas? I guess everyone's is different. For me it's when Sandra and I go see The Ed Croft Trio play Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas at The PAUSA House ... or is it a week earlier when we go on our Anniversary Weekend (of course that's getting earlier every year). Hm? So, many options.
Our real anniversary date is tomorrow... We'll have a quiet dinner at home with a Hallmark Movie.
Happy Tuesday! Two weeks from today is Christmas!
things are rolling along at 431, it appears we will be more than ready for our Saturday " Hey its not Christmas, but this is our Christmas Party" Extravaganza!
So the 2PM start time was set up if anyone wanted to tail gate, sometimes we all need a pre gamer before a family party. 3PM, is the official start time, and if it was snowing we would wait til 4PM, because hey we are polite if nothing else!
So its suppose to be 42 degree's, so everyone should arrive on time...
So, I made my pirate gift last night with pine needles, Popsicle sticks and glue. It's going to be best gift there. I can't wait to see everyone fight over it. I betcha Oliver ends up with it.
So, the engineering of this year's batch of nog is complete and if early taste tests are any indication, it could be a banner year. So all of you nog lovers out there need to prep those taste buds. Tomorrow is pirate gift wrapping day so all we are waiting for will be the arrival of the Atlanta Holtzes and we will be under way to 431. Always the high point of the xmas season and I have a hunch that I will be outmaneauvering Oliver.See you all on sat.
Stunned by the news nite. Heal quickly. As bad as it was, it could have been a lot worse. Get well soon little sis.
So I am guessing that the blog will be a bit inactive until we can get Aunt B back up and about. Quiet in the southtowns and hoping things get turned around for a merrier christmas. Take care all.
GOOD MORNING!!!!
How's that for quiet?
Bummer that we didn't get to spend Saturday together, but Unckie's right, it could have been worse.
Here's to a quick recovery.
We're going through the typical holiday cheer visits with friends and family right now... meaning by the time 9 PM rolls around I'm exhausted.
Mom is healing as each day passes. I don’t think she is any rush to come home though. She is labeled the new girl in town and was asked to join resident council to shake things up. Her new friend Priscilla even challenged her to hop on one leg.
Georgie and I can’t wait to have her home. We are already planning Holtz Christmas take 2 for around grams birthday. I think the polish sausage will still be good by then?
Her social calendar includes therapy and plenty of activities. The fire alarms were going off today. But, Floyd says not to worry. Someone pulls the alarm all the time.
Good to see auntie B. yesterday despite the fact that she is favoring one leg badly. Can certainly see her becoming a degraff activist. Spent a lot of time wandering the halls yesterday until mercy was shown to me by some good samaritan who got me to the right building. Certainly going to be a different christmas in some ways but we will all get past it and there will be time to make everything good, Until then, peace and blessings to all.
Merry Christmas Eve!
Glad to hear that Auntie is on the mend. Hopefully, she'll running marathons with Jill>
Unckie, Were there no signs at DeGraf informing you of your sisters room? That's crazy that they let you walk the halls.
At work now, but leaving soon enough.
I need to buy a few food items, then we'll relax, go to church and come back home for a nice steak dinner.
MerrBChristmas to one and all. Had a wonderful xmas eve with the jewettville holtzes and the Bellarica Mass. Warrens. Today we are off to Linda's for a get together. Hoping that all is well with my ailing sister. Will be a tough day to get thru but better times are coming. Love to all from the southtowns.
Merry-Day-After-Christmas!
What a day! What a wonderful day.
Sandra and I hosted Christmas with our parents and an old friend yesterday afternoon, that was a first.
We had ham, scalloped potatoes, noodles in a white sauce, and plenty o apps and desserts.
YUM!
Sandra got a cold from someone (Ms. Emma) and she's not happy about it.
Happy to be back at home after the better part of the last four days joining in the mirth and merriment at Mercy Hospital. Looks like Auntie B is beginning to mend a bit and hopefully the older holtz contingent will enter 2019 better off than 2018 ended. Happy New Year to everyone!!!
Happy New year to all who read this, which, at this time probably means me. Let's hear it for 2019 and trying to fill out forms properly.
It looks like we are turning the corner here with AB. Soon, she will be home.
We are hoping sometime next week.
Happy New Year!
That was great news. Sis sounded upbeat last nite and was particularly excited, as was i, that Ida found her lost teeth. Hope that all went well at bingo.
If reports are correct, it sounds as if AB will be heading home today. Fantastic news if true and long over due. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Pretty quiet out here in the southtowns and that is always good news.
Quiet Southtowns???? Well, that can't be true. The Holtz's are usually tearing it up.
Ok, ok, it's quiet up here too. This is Emma and Zach's last week of freedom before school starts on Monday. Zach is entering his final semester before he graduates with his Bachelor's. He's hoping to go to Canisius for his Masters in Education. Emma had a successful first semester with a 3.5 GPA and Sandra's book is starting to gain some momentum.
That's it from B-lo.
All good stuff from the b-lo area. Doldrums of Jan. are upon us. The only good thing, at least to this point, is the general lack of snow, Last two days of dire predictions of 5-8 resulted in a dusting at best. No complaints from here. MD appt on monday and hoping to be cleared to travel. Missing "missedmas" in warmlanta. Looking for an update from Auntie B now that she is back at 431.
We had an enjoyable weekend, busy to say the least. It was Zach and Emma's last weekend before school started on Monday. Zach is going to do his intern with KidsPlay and Emma's trying to trade a class for a class that she wants.
Sandra's book will be available on Amazon at the end of the week
I'm not sure if this is "Fake News" or not but I heard on the radio that our friend, Mustafa the Squirrel, is joining the #MeToo Movement. I'm actually not even sure what that really means. I just wanted to pass the news along.
Sounds as if Auntie B. is making progress, I have been cleared for most things but still have some limitations. Dire predictions for this weekend but at least Buffalo won't be hosting the AFC championship game here. That would make for interesting tv. Other than that, quiet in the southtowns. Keep an eye on that rascally Mustafa. Now that they are reairing the old Geico squirrel commercials, I think that he might be jealous and that would make him capable of anything.
Is everyone hunkered down for the impending storm that is hitting WNY.
Yeah, me neither (I do have beer though).
Don't travel this weekend unless you need toiletries, toothpaste, a deck of cards, a plastic comb, olive oil, etc...
Damn it's cold out there. Had to snowblow yesterday but that was it for the outdoors. Certainly some good? football yesterday. I am sure that we all enjoyed "pretty boy" leading our beloved Patriots to another Super Bowl visit, but it kept me up until after 10 last nite to watch it, very late for my standards. Looks like another in door day today. Normally I would make a comment about my sister enjoying her day off, but I am guessing that she has had enuf days off to satisfy her for awhile. Looking forward to my b-i-l joining me this week in 75 land. From recent conversations with him I am thinking that he is not looking forward to it. Stay warm!
Goooood morning! I echo Unckie's comment about the cold.
Horrible football game last night... Cheaters always cheat. I'm not sure how they did it, but they did.
My dad's 75th birthday is tomorrow! Woo Hoo! I'm thinking this is a pretty big deal.
It kinda sounds like a milestone.
Due to yesterday's crappy, rainy weather, I'm declaring today Jeff's Day.
I get to do something special today, like...
eat at Burger King or... rub my tummy.
Maybe I could take an afternoon nap at work.
Sorry so out of the loop! I had tried to post using my phone but I see nothing posted?
So I am day 41 of getting better since landing on the basement floor, and this has been a very slow process but focusing on the positives! I have health insurance! Getting great care! And lots of support from family, friends and neighbors!
Other than that, doing lots of sleeping, I think I lost about 340 hours of zzz...lots of great books to read, thanks to my brother
And I just wanted to say, that I thank everyone for everything!
I always thought the darkest day of my life, was my Mom saying to me, I guess this is good bye as she lay dying, nope it was listening to Christmas music late Chistmas eve in a hospital bed and not being with family! Much love to you all!
19 days til pitchers and catchers report!
Happy happy birthday Gary Richard Rice!
I hope you have a wonderful birthday!
Thanks for letting your beautiful wife take such good care of me!
I hope your cake is chocolate!
Happy saturday! Brrrr it's cold out there! Not that I have ventured out mind you!
So today I have lots going on! No not really!
So the one thing that has come to light with this accident, is a lot of things Geo and I just did not figure on! For example our home, no first floor shower, door frames too narrow for a wheel chair, and a whole litany of other issues! So we have looked at adding an addition or possibly moving, and that will all be worked on, once I'm better,
I was glad the govt reopened prior to my sister and BIL leaving on Tuesday, I can't imagine what the TSA,line would like with short staffing at Buffalo International, glad everyone is back to work!
Other than that nothing else going on!
Stay warm!
And....it's still cold. 0 degrees in NT right now. -5 this AM.
Last night I grilled in 0 degree (-20 ish wind chill) and I loved it! My legs still felt cold after being in the house for 30 minutes. The steaks and baked potatoes were delicious.
Sandra, Emma and I are going to see Spamalot tonight at The Kavinoky Theater... can't wait.
I'm glad you're feeling better Auntie B are prayers are with you. Let us know when you're ready for visitors.
Very glad to see that my sister has resurfaced on the blob. I am here contemplating the fact that I must, at some point, return to the outdoors. Last foray out was tuesday afternoon. Favorite son came yesterday and did the snowblowing of the driveway but there is still some cleaning up to be done. EA schools are closed again today, 4th time in the last week, and the kids are here for the day. Amy got stranded on wed. at Aurora Park, I am sure that nc jnn can relate to that, but was able to make a successful run home at ll onwed. nite. I think that Adam was really grateful for that. It is superbowl weekend but other than wishing pretty boy ill, I can't get into it. Word has it that my little sister has a md appt. coming on 2/14. true?? Another cold day today but then better times a comin' right?? Make the best of it.
Well it's Super Bowl Sunday. Thank goodness that Oliver's baseball team had a fundraiser involving squares for the game so at least i will have a reason to watch. Can't believe the change in weather in just a few days. I think that we need to investigate and see if nphw jff set some sort of Guiness Book of Records thing for the cookout in the lowest temp. Kudos nphw, you/re a better man than I. Hope that body heat and circulation have returned, Time to get outside and try to clear the sidewalks before everything refreezes. Enjoy the game if you are so inclined to watch. I am saving my viewing time for tuesday nite and the SOU address. Till then.
Can you believe yesterday? 61 degrees!!! After it just being -26 wind chill just 4 days prior... Crazy weather. Needless to say I grilled again. I had to get the two extremes in.
Unkie, how did you fare with Oliver's Squares?
87 degree temp. range. Way to go nphw!! And in less than a week. We gotta get you into the Guiness book of records. On the squares, nothing even close for auntie or adam or i. For me the most exciting part of the superbowl was watching the last minute for the squares. These were people who I don't know but in the last minute if NE had gotten the first down, or not kicked the field goal, there was one winner with the final score. They kicked the field goal so that changed the winner, and then the LA missed field goal would have been another winner, In no case was it me, but I still anguished because that's the kind of guy that I am. my favorite super bowl squre story was from the bills first superbowl, Husband of a former teaching colleague was in a pool with the final score square worth 10K. Yes, the Norwood field goal gives him the final score. Auntie is battling some sort of bug so I am both attentive and trying to keep my distance. Fixxit ts back to town today after their week down south? Rumors of golf in Charleston. Any truth?
Poor Auntie. Tell her we said get better. Today's is not helping. That's what you call ugly weather.
Fixxits are back in little ol WNY... they'll never be the same now that they've had a feel for warmth.
Another weekend is upon us and one without football, the first in many a moon. Quiet in the southtowns now that the gentle zephyrs have died down, at least a bit. The Jewettville Holtzes have headed to rochester and the strong museum for the day to celebrate "the big 6" for Ben which leaves me in charge of 91 yr. old Lucy, in dog years of course. Hopefully we will be able to get out of here this week and finally get to Hotlanta to celebrate missedmas, but it seems as if another winter storm is headed this way. We will just have to wait and see. Take care all
Happy Tuesday!
Day 59 on this road to recovery! I did manage to crawl out the back door yesterday to actually get in my car and drive. That was a test run to drive to the Dr's tomorrow, to e eliminate using the wheel chair van, which is a whole nother experience!
That's my update!
Georges birthday this week, so we have a birthday party on the horizon! Hope my brother and his lovely wife got to Hotlanta!
Hope everyone gets a Valentine!
Happy Valentine's Day!!!
Rumours have Sandra's book close to being ready on Amazon. Fingers crossed.
Zach is interning at Kids Play for his college's Sr. yr. and Emma is rocking and rolling at school. She wishes she would have tried out for the school's musical.
lots of good stuff going on in WNY. Kudos to sandra and hope that AB's dr. visit went well yesterday. Hope that UG has a great b'day. Have tentative plans for lunch next friday with my sister (and hopefully sisters-plural if she gets cleared). Made the big move on wed. morning and fought the snow from EA to cleveland but are currently in chattanooga on the way to atlanta this am to see everyone. Have to tell you what a difference it made walking out to the car this morning in 55 degree temps. Kinda changes your mental outlook, at least a bit. Hope that everyone enjoyed V-day and have a great weekend.
Another snowy day in paradise! Had a wonderful weekend birthday party for George. Daughter Jill out did herself with cooking an absolutely scrumptious prime rib! Delicious!
Have decided to run again for school board, so if you live in the COT, stop by and sign my petition! I need one hundred signatures, so all help appreciated!
I did have a good Dr's visit. Per the Dr I am in the last phase of this road to recovery! I can put weight on my shoulder, hold a coffee cup etc and I can start to put weight on my ankle as tolerated. So we are moving forward!
Got a wonderful care package from Hotlanta! So appreciate the love! Other than that, not to much else going on!
Good news Auntie B!!! Sounds like you won't miss this year's Turkey Trot.
Unckie, hopefully you had an uneventful ride down to Hotlanta.
Two words: Baseball
Happy Friday!!!
Sandra's taking off with her parents and sisters to sunny Florida on Sunday! Hopefully the wind doesn't derail her flight plans.
Emma is in her dorm room sick, poor thing. I took her soup yesterday and she was happy to see it.
Zach had the week off from work and enjoyed just relaxing and doing nothing.
Tonight Sandra and I are going to a jazz gig at Revolution Gallery and grabbing a beer.
Back in WNY apparently just in time for "the big blow" had a very nice but way to short visit in atlanta. Weather was decent, 50's,some rain but did play golf. Daffodils were in full bloom and buds on trees was at least an idea of what is to come eventually. Lots of fun celebrating "missedmas". Caroline made her debut as acolyte at church last sunday and performed flawlessly. Ride both down and back went well. Traffic wasn't bad. Hotels were mostly empty and thus quiet. Glad to hear that AB is on the mend, UG had a good b-day, hope that Emma mends quickly and sndra has a good fla, trip. Stay out of trouble nphw. Jewettvelle holtzes are all back from Mass. and I am looking forward to seeing my sisters, etc. on friday, Batten down the hatches and hopefully no one loses power. Take care
We lost power Sunday at 9:30PM and it came back on sometime after 12:30 Monday afternoon.
Sandra had two flights canceled so I took her down to Pittsburgh Airport so she could get out of town and enjoy the Florida sun and warmth.
We left at 4:30 AM Monday morning and I got her there at 8:30 ish. I got back to Buffalo around 12:30 to a cold house. I ate my lunch, puttered around for a bit and I bundled up and took a nap.
Zach got home at 3:30 and asked if the power box worked. Hm, interesting question.
He said he messed with it.
Sure enough! He turned the main breaker to neutral. I switched it off, switched it on and lo and behold electricity and the furnace kicks on! Yeah!!!
Nothing but adventures in the land of Pilaf. Glad to hear that nc sndra did eventually get out of town. I was curious as to how that was going given the high winds and the delays well thru monday. Way to go zack for helping out the old man. We had a few interruptions here but very brief thankfully. But that was quite a blow. Heard that the power outage on Nash rd was so bad that Mr. fixxit ALMOST turned on his generator. Had to be dire for that to happen. I guess that the rule of thumb is don't use any generator fuel until at least 24 hrs. No reports from Adam st. but all of the furor with the ice had to have things in a tizzy. More snow on the way today. We shall see. Take care and stay warm.
The last day of February. Where did it go.
Sandra is having a blast in Sunny FLA/ Disney with her parents and sisters.
Rumor has it she even got a tattoo.
Not much else going on. Zach works every night coaching at Kids Play as an intern.
Emma and I are going to Miss Saigon, thanks to Sandra's absence. I'm thinking about Frank's Sunny Italy after the show.
Met the Fixxitts and Auntie B for lunch yesterday at the Hideaway in NT and had a great time. Good to see everyone for the first time in a long time. Snowing now in the southtowns and it looks like a cold week in the offing. Stay warm and THINK SPRING!
We're in for a cold week.
No immediate plans this week. I'm happy (and Jeter's happy too) that Sandra's back in town.
She had a fun vacation down in sunny Florida.
Slow week this week... stay warm.
Happy Fat Tuesday!
Super cold and snowy, so what does that mean? Must be Tuesday!
Lunch was wonderful! So good to see my brother and SIL! We determined that we had not been together since July! And that will never happen again!
Met Rebecca and Joanna for brunch Sunday morning, as they were in town for Louise dad's funeral. They are doing well. They are all very interested in attending a Holtzapalooza! So that is something I am hoping we can work on!
Other than that going to therapy and Dr's appointments, which seems to be a full time job!
Oh and filing all the necessary paperwork for temp handicapped parking!
Stay warm, dry and hydrated!
So each time I go out and get the snow blower revved up I tell myself that it will be the LAST time for the season. So this will be the 5th last time in the last two weeks.Question is, will this one take? I will try again. Interesting map on weather.com. It appears that the coldest weather on the world weather map is in the eastern part of North America. Just thought that I would share. ESPN has all access to the Red Sox today. Know that my sister is off and will be able to watch. Thought that nphw might want to take the day off to take advantage. Other than that, nothing much new in the southtowns. lent is under way. For me, no brussel sprouts for the next 40 days. And you???
Happy Wed! Bitter bitter cold and not much else! Glenn Elizabeth Everett had a 48 hour period where her nose did not run, that streak ended this morning.
I am still working hard to get better, doing my exercises, and following directions, and anyone who knows me knows how hard that is for me!
But need to get back to work!
Once I am back to work , George will retire.
Other than that, sick of the cold and snow!
Stay warm, spring is on the way! Allegedly!
Now that should read Gwenn Elizabeth Everett!
Latest Weather Update:
It's still freezing outside.
Hard to believe I did NOT take advantage of All Access Red Sox TV... I wasted my day.
Big weekend starting tonight with a brisket, pulled pork tomorrow and then a nap on Sunday.
Received Larry Titzler's book in the mail from my sister. In terms of length, not exactly War and Peace, or, as it was known in the original, war, what is it good for? Thank you Seinfeld, but it looks like it will be interesting. Thanks sis. Meeting our friends from Rochester in Batavia today for dinner so that will probably be it for the weekend. Other than that, just trying to get things organized for our upcoming trip at the end of the month. Hope that everyone has a good weekend. Keep up the rehabbing sis and you will be back at work soon enough.
Happy Friday! Of course Friday has a different meaning as I am not working!
The cold is wearing very thin!
So no Antonio Brown?
That was a bizarre story!
No big plans for the weekend.
Just trying to survive the cold!
We had a fun filled weekend making a brisket on Friday and then pulled pork on Saturday.
Sunday was leftovers.
We have a busy week this week as we gear up for St. Patty's Day, my favorite holiday in March!
Another weekend is almost upon us and I hope that everyone is ready for a sunday celebration. prepare to let the green beer flow. i don't believe that the parade is on our agenda but I am relying on nphw jff to come up with activities that will make me feel that I have actually done something fun. You go nphw! Jewettville Holtz kids joining us today as it seems that the EA teachers are having another no work friday. Here is hoping for reports of lots of fun things.
Well, we had a fun filled Paddy Day Weekend. Friday night we went to Larkin for beer, dance music and merriment and then finished the night at Hydraulic Hearth. Saturday we went north to Woodcocks for, once again, beer, food music and merriment. Sunday (St. Patrick's Day) we rested.
Even the Lord had a day of rest nphw so I wouldn't worry. Went outside to do my beagle dance welcoming spring. My mano a mano picks are in for march madness and I have embarked upon the collection of desbris from the yard. what else can there be. UB men and women at the same time? nice scheduling. enjoy the sunshine!!
Right?
UB men and women playing at the same time... goofy. Horns Up!!!
Been a slow week since St. Patrick's Day.
We did renew our Shea's Season Tickets for next season and stayed downtown to eat at The Dinosaur Bar with Ms. Emma. Delicious! Both Emma and Sandra ordered meals and I just ate what they couldn't finish. Classic.
Sandra and Emma are going to Mount St. Mary's tonight to see their play and I'm just hanging at home with a friend eating wings and watching Bball. Tomorrow we're doing a few wineries and having dinner at Live Edge Brewery.
Enjoy your weekend!
Sad to see both of the uB teams go down yesterday after such great friday games. I think that both were in over their heads, particularly the ladies, who performed so well against a really great team. Spent the weekend trying to get packed and figure out what we need for the next three weeks. Tomorrow will be a really long day since we have to be at the airport about nine and with the various layovers won't be in Dublin until 3AM Buffalo time, and that is if all goes according to plan. Wish us luck. Hoping that spring arrives in our absence. Take care all
I'm sure my brother is probably safely tucked in, so he won't see my best wishes for an amazing trip! Soak up all that culture, I believe they call it Guiness!
Have an adventure of a lifetime! You earned it!
Me, I head back to work next week. I guess it's time!
George will be retiring the 25th of April, and we will be working towards selling 431.
Other than that, was hoping Duke so u or get upset!
Yep, I'm thinking that Unckie and Auntie are off the grid. Good for them.
Sandra and I are talking about going to Ireland. I hope they have a great time.
Sooooooo... we're still talking about going to Ireland.
Hope that I am not too late to wish my little sister a most happy birthday. A week into our trip and things have thankfully been going well.lots of historical stuff and more than a few pubs.take care all
Woooooo!!!!
All the way from across the pond. Thanks for checking in. We hope you are having the time of your life!
Got a chance today to play golf..a course on the Irish Sea. Great views but a bit of a gale and no trolleys which meant walking limited play. Auntie happily sat in the restaurant with her tea. On to cork tomorrow.save your euros. They are great with Americans
Staying in kinsale on the south coast. Dinner last night at a spot 10k from where the Lusitania was sunk. This B and B sits high on a hill overlooking the sea. We have an itinerary for you nphw. You would love it.
So excited to see updates from my brother! So glad your trip is going well and you are having fun!
Thank you for the birthday wishes, it was a nice day.
I did return to work on Wed and was promptly told my job had been eliminated. So George rescinded his retirement til July 1st to buy us some more health care coverage time, and I now apply for unemployment! It's all good, our goal is still to sell the house, move into a ranch, so this is just a bump in the road, and not even that! Travel safe
Another adventure in the land of Holtz. I am not sure if I should offer congratulations or condolences.i know that you guys will use this as an opportunity for more and better things.the holtzes ain’t nothing about but resilient. Drove into cobh and cork yesterday.made one wrong turn and as the gps was adjusting, i found us driving through a potato field.no harm done and auntie had her laugh for the day at my expense,as usual.done with the south coast of Ireland and today we head to the west coast. Another week but the time is going way too fast. Hang in there sis
100th comment is all mine! Last two days driving the coast with a stop yesterday in Killarney national park,a house tour,a bit,a very little bit,of hiking and pub stops in Killarney and kenmare.driving on to dingle today. Guy in the B and B yesterday had on a UVA shirt and claimed that they had won the NCAA championship the night before but all I have heard anything about is soccer, rugby and hurling.ls there a baseball season in progress? Best wishes from the Emerald Isle.
Happy Holy Week! Hope everyone has a great week as we prepare for Easter! Our cousin Cathy, did ask if I was preparing an Easter celebration, knowing full well what happened with my last celebratory party, and the answer of course was yes!
So.... did everyone watch Tiger, yea me neither. I guess second and third chances are given!
So I have been discharged from therapy, I guess that means I am well, who knew.
Busy filling out scads of paperwork, unemployment, pension, 401K etc etc...
All I can say to all of that is UGH!
Other than that no other news really.
Just trying to adjust to this new change.
So glad my brother is having a dream vacation! This life we all have been blessed with, amazing!
Enjoy your week, get through it as best as you can!
Back in WNY but my body is telling me that it's 9 AM and not 4 AM like it really is. Yesterday was LONG like we knew that it would be, and the real adventure was the drive back from the airport in the dark and rain constantly reminding myself to stay on the RIGHT. But we made it home without incident. Message on the machine from my older sister about a lunch date soon. Getting back to her is on my list of things for today. That and starting to de-Guinessfy my body. Ah, the real world. Gotta say that I would prefer to play but unfortunately.......
Easter weekend is upon us and I hope that everyone has special plans. Recalling, as I am sure that I have mentioned before, that last nite, Holy Thursday, was the annual trip to church that Dad made. He would go with Freddie and Gramma Holtz to the Maundy? thursday services at Salem and then return to home on grove st. and drink heavily to apparently erase any memory of the event. Have been invited to brunch at eric stoiber's on Easter and to dinner in jewettville so it promises to be a busy sunday. Trying desperately to get all of the yard work done that I didn't do the last month. Have a tentative lunch date at Woodcock in Nt for May 3, barring jury duty for my sister. Merry Easter to all!!
5/3 at Woodcock's? I could be there.
WELCOME HOME!!!!
I hope you guys had the trip of a lifetime. It sure sounded like it. Thanks for the updates.
Zach and Emma are both finishing up the college year and Zach informed us he is graduating. Soooooo...
Another week/weekend goes into the books. Hope that it was productive for all. College year wrapping up? Where is the time going. Based on the draft I am heading over to the stadium to get my season ticket. Will I see any of you there? Take care all.
Last day of the 4th month... this is crazy. Slow down you crazy world.
Busy weekend coming up; Smelt Fest on Friday... Oh wait, that's it.
I'll have to figure something else out.
A third of the year gone by. You are right nphw, where is the year going. And smelt fest to boot. Another banner weekend. Lunch with both of my sisters tomorrow with nphw close at hand. Looks to be the start of a good weekend. Enjoy it
Had a most enjoyable luncheon get together at Woodcock yesterday. kept looking over my shoulder for nphw jff but apparently he was on assignment. Looking forward to reports of the smeltfest. have been entrusted with arranging next date which will involve a boat trip down the buffalo river. Details to come. Another less than stellar weekend in the offing weatherwise. Make the most of it.
Happy Monday!
Not going to work I have a whole new view of the days of the week! So happy Monday!
My brother has inspired me to plan a trip for the ages!
More to come!
Had such a wonderful lunch with my sister and brother! We toasted our brother gone a year!
Time flies!
I hope everyone won lots of money on the Derbyshire!
Me, not so much!
To all, enjoy this week and all that it brings!
I put a $1000 down on Maximum Security. How'd I do?
Sunday was gorgeous. Today is gorgeous... we're the San Diego of the East.
This weekend we're off to Butler, PA for a getaway with Emma.
We're headed down to Butler, PA tomorrow (Friday) in the AM for a little R&R. Emma is going to her cousin Anna's Prom and the adults will just be chillin' around the fire. So far, the weather doesn't look good but we'll manage.
Seems that I recall that Mrs. Fixxitt was headed to Charleston sometime soon so if she is travelling, hope that all goes well, as well as the trip to Pa. Us, headed to hotlanta on sunday for a babysitting gig so the KDHRC execs can get off for "corporate planning".Looks like a decent day here so I will be obligated to do something productive. Glad to hear that my youngest sister is planning on a fun trip. Gotta go for it sis. Bills always get paid, one way or another, and we all have the "feather in the shoe" gene from Mom so go for it. Life is too short. Auntie is enjoying the fact that she is in better shape than 47 years ago. Another example, and there are way too many of late, of, where does the time go? Make the best of it.
Butler weekend was fantastic! Emma had a wonderful time at her cousin Anna's Prom while the adults visited a few breweries.
Saturday was gorgeous!!!! The Sun was shining and so was Sandra's smile.
We visited the small town of Harmony, PA where the Harmonists settled down in 1804, and spent the day walking, exploring and then stayed for din-din at the Harmony Inn.
That Harmony is one cool place. Sounds like a real fun trip. Arrived in atlanta on sunday and the trip went well. Had some concerns about delays due to thunder in the area here but it stayed ok until later. Last few days have been sunny and 70ish so good, at least better than WnY by reports. supposed to be close to 90 by the weekend. Girls have been great and the adults are apparently enjoying savannah. Lots of down time with the girls in their last 2 weeks of school so just sittin' outside chillin' by the pool. Enjoy!
Sandra and Emma have Dear Evan Hanson on Saturday afternoon so I'll be enjoying Porchfest in Elmwood Village until they're done. That's a fair trade.
I'm also trying to get my lovely bride out to Batavia to visit the Eli Fish Brewery. Here's keeping my fingers crossed.
Happy Friday!
Sandra, Zach and I visited the Hertel offerings last night for two stops, Mac's and Wine on Hertel. Zach was beyond exited to join us. It was tough to wipe the smile off his face.
Nothing going on tonight; I'll grill up some burgers and we'll enjoy the evening by the fire.
Enjoy your weekend... Winter Is Coming.
Can't believe that it is friday already. Girls have their field days at school today and were excited about that. Mom and Dad scheduled to return today and a very busy day of activity tomorrow and then we return on sunday, hopefully to better weather than we left. Have gotten a bit spoiled here with the 80+ temps. But as my nphw optimistically pointed out, winter will soon be upon us. Looking forward to reports on eli fish, since we frequently meet our rochester friends in batavia and are always looking for options. Take lots of notes nphw. Otherwise, let's enjoy our weekend.
Back in WNY after our brief trip to Atlanta. Bit surprised by the heat upon our return but I am thinking that it is about time for some decent weather. Got to get caught up on the lawn and with Memorial day close at hand, the garden work should be well under control, right?? With that said, enjoy the week.
Sounds like another big win for the COT Adam st. political machine. Way to go sis!! And the shouts of FOUR MORE YEARS !! were heard echoing down Fletcher St. No, sorry, I got that confused with the Trump rally in Pa. but obviously the electorate is very pleased. Always exciting to hear some good news. Nothing along those lines in the southtowns. Waiting to hear the acceptance speech.
Happy Almost Weekend!
Emma is headed off to Toronto's Anime Convention tonight for the weekend. She has her costumes and is ready to go! Year # 5 for her.
Zach is trying to get packed for Summer Camp and get his ducks in-line to apply to Canisius. for the Masters Program. It goes without saying he is stressed.
Sandra and I are going Wine Hopping up in Niagara County on Friday with our neighbors and we'll end up at Woodcock Brewery for din-din.
We have nothing planned for the weekend, but you know we'll do something. We definitely have to do some outside chores and spring cleaning.
Well I hope that everyone is ready for the first big holiday weekend of the summer because as we all know, according to that eternal optimist, my father, soon after memorial day comes the 4th of july, and once the 4th is here, we all know what we are on the way to right?? right??So enjoy the weekend. Of course schools are closed again today so we are joined by the Jewettville Holtz kids for the day so it is time to get them out working in the fields. Thank God for the pilafs. They always have a plan. Enjoy!!
Happy memorial day weekend. Now that our hotly contested race is over I can focus on..... not sure what that will be? Return to work? Live off SS, pension and savings? I did get my first social security check, so trusting the govt remains solvent. No big plans this weekend. Yard work, still mov i g forward on selling the house, so decluttering is front and center! Tim Tebow is in town next week, if any one is interested. Heading up to cape cod in June, other than that not much else going on? Maybe we can do a Christmas in July?
Enjoy the long weekend all!
So it is "officially" Memorial Day, or Decoration Day, whatever your choice, today so we are kicking off summer, at least by my standards. Was going to celebrate by going to the Bisons game but 10:30 is a bit early plus we have an Oliver game tonite so I will get my baseball fix one way or another. A big HB to my grandson as he begins his last pre-teen year today. Caroline heads off to swim camp this weekend at UGA as I watch these kids grow up before my eyes. Guess i will have to go out and hoist a glass in their honor today. Welcome to June just on the horizon. End May in a blaze of glory all!!
Sandra and I had an incredibly awesome time in Frederick, MD; hot bed for Civil War history.
We went to Monocacy Battlefield, that was great! Stories, stories, stories...
I took Sandra to a Frederick Keys game (my second visit) and we had quite a few wonderful meals too. The trip was highlighted by the Art Festival, very cool. Sandra bought a few things.
Well another weekend is upon us. Sounds as if nphw and the missus had a good time in Maryland. Auntie was gushing over her luncheon at the convention center. Kudos to nc jnn for the nomination and I am sure that next year she will follow in the footsteps of Joanne Falletta and receive the official honors that she has earned. Heading off to Batavia today to meet our Rochester friends for dinner. Looks to finally be a decent weekend weatherwise so I am sure that we will all take advantage and use our time productively. Sad to see the Bruins victimized by a bad call last nite. So when is Auntie B. heading off to N.E.? We do have a luncheon/cruise? next friday with the fixxitts. Will you be around/interested? Enjoy
Ugh to a rainy Monday! Great weekend! Caught up on yard work, thought about heading off to Cleveland, but then no.
It was a very nice luncheon! Not to long, the food was yummy and it was a very nice lunch. And the parting gifts were wonderful! Poker chips! I'm sorry I can't meet up for the luncheon cruise, I have my first hearing in my complaint against Kaleida! Enjoy!
We leave for the cape on the 20th. Hopefully will get to some cape cod games! Enjoy this day!
Gooooood morning on a cloudy day. The weekend was gorgeous though.
Unckie,
Have you been to the brewery in Batavia yet? Eli Fish, or something like that.
We went to Allentown Art Festival on Saturday and had a blast. Sunday we had a small gathering for Emma's 19th Birthday. A liitle grillin', a little sun.
Our weather roller coaster continues. Did have one decent day this week which allowed for meeting my friend Don for a round of golf at Cassadaga Lake. The proposed "cruise" on the Buffalo river is on hold with the Fixxitts in response to today's weather but they are presumably on the way out to the southtowns for lunch and ms. fixxitts trip to Vidler's. we shall see. Two new first time champs, blues and raptors, and can't say that any of that makes me unhappy. Apparently my favorite son promised his son a trip to toronto for the parade if they won so I am eager to see how that goes. Best wishes to all of the dads out there for an enjoyable sunday. Hope that all goes well for Auntie B. and the Kochs have a great trip to the Cape.
I hope all my favorite uncles had a fantastic Father's Day! You guys were very important while I was growing up, so many fun memories and family stories.
We had a busy weekend despite the crappy, rainy, cold weather. Friday night the entire fam enjoyed an evening dining out talking about Camp Pioneer and Zach and Emma's week.
Saturday, Sandra and I enjoyed Lewiston and the Garden Festival with a little lunch at The Brickyard.
Then Sunday we went to church, out to eat as a fam again (Mac's on Hertel) and then watched USA World Cup... fun, fun weekend.
Third attempt to post. Hoping that this goes better. Nice time with the Fixxitts on Friday as we did a bit of a modified EA pub crawl. Hope that the Mrs. was able to get all of her Vidler's goodies. Did miss having the Kochs join us. Maybe next month. Disappointing weeend weather wise and as a result pretty quiet out here. The Atlanta twins arrive on thursday and I am guessing that things will get a lot busier. Hope that everyone has a great week.
The hammock is back in working order, I repeat, the hammock is back!!! I'm sure I'll use it tonight.
twins were here for a great time and are now back in hotlanta. Big sister caroline arrives on thursday for her stint in wny. Lots of time with the cousins along with a trip to the penn dixie fossil dig which everyone seemed to enjoy. A GREAT weather weekend, FINALLY, made it that much better. Enjoy the week ahead!!
Glad y'all had fun at Penn Dixie, that's a great place.
summer is heating up and so are the weekends away, starting with a wedding in Saratoga Springs. This will be Sandra and my first time there. So we'll explore a little.
Check out the national historical park if you have time. downtown is lots of fun. will be envious of you this weekend. Enjoy the trip.
So sorry I have been MIA, it seems the only device I can access the most recent blog post is my oldest one! Which is iffy at best! So let's catch up! I hope my brother and nephew had an awesome fathers day! We barbecued at the twins house between rain drops! I was trying to remember what I used to get dad on fathers day? All I came up with was books? We are currently having the house painted, same color, so you can find us, but all in preparation of moving! We went up to cape cod last week, got home last night, so for the 5 days we were there it rained 4 ! No baseball, we did get to the Bourne Braves game and they cancelled while we were in the parking lot!
Maybe better luck next year! Spent lots of time with, Joanna, Rebecca and Sara. Rebecca hosted a huge picnic on Sunday. Matthew brought his family down.. he just purchased a fixed upper in Pembroke, about 45 minutes from the girls. So in telling me his renovation story, he mentioned they were all living in the basement. I told him I knew that story and it didn't end well. But he said, not this time Aunt Betsy, not this time. Monday we were going to head up to Hyannis, but ran smack dab into a monstrous traffic jam and we bailed. Another visit, definitely. Joanna son , Zach is in preschool and doing well.
The twins graduated from their 3 year program, now onto to 4 year old program.
Lots more cape cod family stories to tell, but will save it for another post. Wishing my brother an early birthday wish. I hope you have something fun planned, and the beer is cold!
Sorry to hear about the weather issues on the Cape. Can't fault you for trying to get to a game. Sounds as if the visits were good and all is going well with John's kids. They deserve some breaks. Pictures of the twins graduation were great. Caroline is on the way for her stay so now we have to come up with some plans. I am sure that most will involve the Jewettville Holtzes. Birthday plans are murky for now. Not used to being in WNY. Will have last year's birthday lunch in Boise to reflect back upon, but I have a hunch that this year's plans will probably include a cold one, or perhaps. even two. Weekend is almost here. Enjoy
Howdy! And Happy Bobby Bonilla Day!!!
We had a fantastic time in Saratoga Springs. Unfortunately, because of time allowance, we didn't get to do extra stuff. We shopped, we ate, but no historic parks or museums. Next time. We will go back.
We stopped off in Skaneateles for lunch on our way back and shopped a bit there too.
What a great weekend.
Sounds as if the Pilafs saw some of the best of NYS in there trip east and back. Two really cute little towns, caroline is back safe and sound in atlanta and we had a fun weekend with her but way too short in time, halfway point for our current year, again. hard to believe, Looks like some warm weather on the horizon. Hope that everyone is making fun plans for the fourth. Dont let summer pass us by,
So 4th of July has come and gone and as good old optimistic Dad always said, it's all downhill for the summer now. Quiet weekend in the southtowns. as we focused on recovery from all the excitement of the two previous weekend. No tall ships for us. hope that everyone else had an enjoyable holiday. Atlanta clan in mississippi enjoying the warmth as they participate in the Dizzy dean world series. So far JPT has won first two games. Go Red devils!!
Happy Monday! Hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend!
Not to much is new on our end-
Get sworn in tomorrow for my second stint on the school board.
Still sending George off to work for that elusive healthcare coverage, and contemplating returning to work.
Twins start summer camp today
Other than that, all is quiet.
Enjoy
GO RED DEVILS!!!
This week we are having a blast with Sandra's friends from Colorado enjoying a Buffalo Vacation. Bisons/ BPO, Shakespeare in the Park, Niagara Falls, Niagara on the Lake, Gretzky's,
Canadian Falls, Canalside.
I leave for Allegany SP wednesday after work with this kids. I hear there's rain in the forecast.
Well the Red Devils returned from Miss. with the runner up trophy. losing twice to the eventual champion in a double elimination tourney. Sounded as if Jefferson had a really good tourney and the kids enjoyed the experience altho I don't know how you enjoy playing in 90 plus temps and heat indices over 100. Have to report that we. the old folks were out last nite in the world. Barb arranged for the tiki boat tour of the buffalo river.etc. Finished up at the new? Resurgence Brewery. High point of the evening had to be watching the arrival of all of the attendees to the White Only party going on at Riverworks. it was "jawdropping" to say the least. Anniversary trip planned for Ithaca on tuesday. looking forward to it. Beautiful day for today. Enjoy it
White Only Party?
Back from Allegany and the first thing that happens is a Holtz Picnic has been planned at The Pickford Estates on Saturday, 8/3 at 2PM to ? Rain or Shine
Bring your drinks and a dish to pass. We'll provide the grilling eats.
Happy Wed! Well it is a red letter at 431! Can I just say that as of 5 am this morning, 3 count email , three unemployment checks were deposited in my checking account!
Another bureaucracy of red tape busted!
Other than that, we are in the middle of canal fest, nothing more needs to be said.
We did watch Jenna March in the parade, and she had the twins March with her the last two blocks . Gwenn handed out candy, begrudgingly! And Henry handed out flags!
So on Sunday I had volunteered to help out with Art on the River. It's a fine art show that Jenna has helped sponsor over the years. And lo and behold who do I see there! She Brese!
Who promptly told me my nephew was just steps from me! Hence the organizing of our White Picnic! It's been too long!
Lunch on Friday is on the calendar ,I understand .
Enjoy this day and every day! Or just go back where you came from! Ugh!
Returned from our whirlwind tour o f central NY with stops in Hammondsport, Ithaca and Elmira. A little nostalgia for yours truly and the Mrs. was more than patient as I attempted to retrace some steps from long ago. Great dinner last nite at the Hilltop rest in Elmira. Great view and good food. Would recommend if you are ever in the neighborhood but that part is unlikely. Fri. lunch forthcoming and a picnic?? Way more activity than I am used to. Loooking forward to it all. Take care all
Had a wonderful get together on friday at the lake with my sisters and b-i-l. Actually pretty comfortable lakeside but the rest of the weekend has been a bit unpleasant. Word hasit that more pleasant conditions are on the way. Hopefully everyone had a most .enjoyable weekend. Stay cool
Zach and Emma's Tour of Duty at Camp Pioneer is going just swimmingly (minus a few hiccups along the way).
Sandra and I had a fantastic weekend, capped by flower picking yesterday at The Flower Stand in Springville.
Happy Wed! It's interesting how unimportant the days of the week are now that I am unemployed! Speaking of unemployment, I am now required to submit every place I have looked for a job?
Brutal!!!
So let's see what's new! So on Monday my SIL turned 40! So happy belated birthday good Gary!
It's Warrior Walk Wed, so that is always a great time. We begin tonight at the old library. Always fun!
We have our senior citizen dinner on Monday which are delicious by the way ! And 8$!
Looking forward to our August picnic! Should be an awesome time!
Other than that, and looking for work, and sending George off to work everyday for healthcare coverage only, life is pretty much on auto pilot!
Enjoy this day!
Good look searching... remember dress professional, no pajama bottoms. I learned that from experience.
We had a funtastic walk along the Buffalo Break Wall and then dinner at The Dapper Goose last night. Fantastic Food!!!
A gorgeous day outside. Enjoy it!
Another weekend has come and gone and hopefully it was a good one for all. Pretty quiet out this way. oliver had a bb tourney which meant a long weekend for he and his dad but they won the tourney which was a good thing. Auntie and i drove over yesterday and caught the semifinal game. Oliver pitched the last 3 innings that was real stressful but they hung on for the win. Today is the chowder cup golf tournament at East Aurora CC which is always a nice event but its a tough course and it will be a hot day so I am hoping for survival. Looks like I will be meeting up with a friend tomorrow at the bisons game so a pretty busy week, by my standards at least. Looking forward to sat,
WOW!!! You are busy. Drink plenty of water... haha.
Slow week this week, National Chicken Wing Day is today so I'll grill up some wings.
Tomorrow, dinner with our friends at Thin Man Brewery on Chandler and
Friday is Aqueous show at Cobblestone Live with Zach and picnic on Saturday!!!
Enjoy the week.
So here we are at Monday. Who knew!
Busy weekend with the twins, but fun ! One of their favorite places to go is the carousel museum! Great rides for little kiddos , a great activity room, and a cool gift shop. Very much a hidden treasure. Yesterday my sister and I did about 20 houses in the garden walk. We did the parkside neighborhood which was fun. And I got her home in time to chat on the phone with her son.
Looking forward to saturday!
Other than, get through this week as best as you can!
What a gorgeous day!!! That's it.
Thanks everyone for coming over on Saturday. It was really nice to get together and just talk and laugh.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to nphw and his wonderful wife for hosting the social event of the season. So many laughs, good company, great food, etc. The day had itall.Hope that everyone's week is half as good as sat. was.
8/8/19
I feel like this is the last time we'll ever see this date again. Cheers to you 8/8/19 it's going to be a great day!
Happy Friday!
Thank you so much for our picnic last week nephew! Lots of fun!
So geo had a 6:30 meeting last night in Lackawanna, let's just say a normal 20 minute ride turned into over 2 hours, traffic was crazy!
No one really should venture out on bills game day or fair day!
Other than that quiet weekend on tap.
Enjoy it
So it's the start of another week. Pretty quiet here in the southtowns. Big event? for the weekend was a baseball trip to Rochester yesterday with A and O to see the Redwings and Louisville. Oliver got some autographs and a ball so it was a successful trip by his standards. Adam and the kids left for Gettysburg this AM fir a brief trip. The Atlanta Holtzes began school today with lots of pix. 9th, 4th and 2nd grades respectively. Growing up fast. Me, nothing planned for the week. Take care all
Happy Friday!!! But then again, is Friday a big deal to most of you on this board?
Well, it is to me.
Family Weekend started last night at Prosper Brewing for pizza.
It continues with Pearl Street Grill and a Bisons game tonight.
Saturday, Griffis Sculpture Park, Steelbound Brewery and then a friends party for Swimming fun.
It's going to be a great weekend.
Ok. I will ask, where did this week go to? I posted on monday. and now it's friday. Adam and his brood are back from gettysburg, k is on her way back from a week in LA, travel safely dear, and there are minimal plans from here in the southtowns.Quite a newsday yesterday with all of the lawsuits, and unfortunately I knew 3 of those mentioned prominently, Sad, very sad. Thank goodness i have nphw jff and his family to live vicariously thru. You go pilafs and enjoy!!
And it's another "magic monday". My oh my how these weeks do roll around. Jewettville holtz kids will be joining us this week as mom and dad labor. Very quiet here this weekend and, if my wife's social media reporting is accurate, the only thing going on was surgery and impending surgery. Hope that this week holds better things for all involved. Keep fighting the good fight.
Oh! We're fighting.
And when I say fighting, I mean relaxing and enjoying the summer with refreshing beverages.
Oh the dog days of summer are upon us. Seems to be all quiet on the wny front. Amy and kids are visiting her mom and dad this week while dad stays and works and tends to a post operative Lucy. Not much here. Just awaiting the arrival of the social security eagle tomorrow. Bills are currently undefeated. My prediction is that will continue to late October.
Neglected to wish nphw jff a big HB for his special day. Hope that you find something fun to do. I hadn't planned on it, but now I will just HAVE to go out to hoist one in your honor.Enjoy your day!
Thank you Unkie!!! I had a fantastic day with Sandra and the kids. We all got to eat dinner together at Anchor Bar. I got my wings, not my free wings from Sunset Grill, but at least I got my wings.
Got the labor day weekend off to a rousing start yesterday as we met up with the Fixxitts out on the lake and did lunch and some bar hopping. Lunch for 4 at stroh's tavern was 22 bucks plus tip. Mr.Fixxitt and I were jumping for joy. Beers and wine were 3 bucks each and more leaping. Can;t imagine the weekend getting any better but I can hope. Bills remain undefeated and it makes my prediction look better and better. Sorry that the wings weren't free, but still and all it sounds like a birthday well celebrated.
By my calendar it is now 9/1. Two thirds of 2019 in the books. By Shady, hello Devon. Bills still undefeated. I stand by my prediction: 8-0 before they are even tested.
A quiet week for the blog. Hope that all is well with everyone. Fun starts tomorrow. Stay by the set with all of your gear on. Sounds as if everything worked out OK in Charleston. Enjoy your weekend.
Still undefeated. Told you so. Never a doubt in my mind.
Happy Sept! Let's recap. Stacy is recuperating from shoulder surgery, Rick dodged a bullet hurricane wise and other than t h at...At 431, we continue to plod on. Me, I continue to look for work as described by the dept of labor. As far as school board goes, we have a consolidation referendum we are trying to get passed. So I am busy for the next 6 weeks. Jenna is unopposed in herbed for 're election,so no campaigning for her.
I turned off the bills game at half time, show of hands , any one else.
Hard to believe it's been 5 years!
Enjoy your day
Hopefully there are no triskadecaphobes out there but stay safe anyhow. Another weekend of fun and frolic for us. Tie down the outdoor furniture for tonite. Go Bills. Don't make a liar out of me.
And the winning continues for our undefeated Bills. Like I said, maybe early November, Bring on "pretty boy" Brady. Nice stretch of weather coming which works out well as Auntie and I head out today for a few days in the Finger Lakes. Fall is coming so we have to take advantage, right? Take care all.
Wow! Where have I been?
Undefeated Bills seems to be the theme... and Stroh's Tavern? I want in.
Ho hum as the Bills cruise to another win. Seven in a row, and if you thought that yesterday was easy, wait until next sunday. As I said before, they may stumble in November, but those 73 dolphins are a little uncomfortable. And it was a stellar week weather wise. Had a real good time in the Finger lakes. Saturday Barb planned a boat cruise in Lockport on the canal that was both interesting and informative. Pretty cool sitting in the locks as the boat goes up and later down by 50 feet. Dinner in the locks rest. on main st. and a stop at a big brew pub on transit. So by our limited standards it was a very busy week. This week, not so much. Take care and enjoy the first week of fall.
You liked New York Beer Project? Cool. It is big.
Sandra and I are getting ready to head south for a couple weeks. Wish us safe travels.
First to Rick and Stacy's in SC and then on to Disney World to see Mickey and Minnie.
This week looks great!!!
Yeah, NYBP, that was it and it was huge. Travel safely nphw and enjoy your time away. We will try to keep the home fires burning.
Good morning! Ugh to yesterday! Just wishing just once the tide will roll our way! Not to much going on. Still on unemployment, and jumping through the mandated hoops by the department of labor.
Working hard to get our school referendum passed, and making sure geo does not miss a day of work, to keep health insurance intact!
Other than that, so looking forward to out atlanta weekend!
Seems like summer is winding down.
Hope everyone is well
first weekend of october in upon us and frost, apparently, will be on the pumpkins tomorrow AM. Next weekend in Hotlanta, and, according to my son in law, it has been just that. Lots of 90's and very dry so we will see what happens when the WNYers descend and bring with them their legendary weather. I am guessing that nphw and the misses are also in the south but it is quiet here in the southtowns. Auntie showed me a great pic of Gwynn and all of her bling this morning and she looked delightful, but getting so grown up. Keep fighting with the labor dept. sis for all that you have coming. Latest news has our prez calling on Albania to investigate the Bidens. Love getting my day off to the latest news. As they say, you couldn't make this up. Waiting to see everyone next friday at the airport. until then
Another weekend and the Bills win, ho-hum, again, as well as the sabres too. I actually ewatched some of the sabres game and have to admit that they are entertaining. i know that I was getting a lot of heat for my prediction that the Bills wouldn't lose until november, but if you look at the calendar...... and conveniently ignore the Pats game, well....?? Except for sports a quiet weekend in the southtowns. Short week and on to Hotlanta. Extended forecast says close to 80. Looking forward to all of it.
Well we're back from our Southern travels of Charleston and Disney. It's hard to believe it came and went. We had a blast! Sandra was smiling from ear to ear in Disney and we found a few new things to do too.
It's that time of the year for Chicken Wing Soup, visiting wineries and sitting outside by the fire. Thank you Bye Week!!!
How was Birthdaypalooza Weekend? I hope everyone had fun.
Back from not so hot lanta a with the birthday bash and our week of babysitting behind us. lots of fun at the birthday weekend, busy week with the kids and glad to hear that the pilafs southern adventure went well. Time now to rest and recover. how bout them bills?? and the sabres doing even better. Good week ahead to all.
Welcome back! Go Bills! Go Sabres!!!
Happy Halloween!
What did I miss? Happy Birthday!
And another weekend is at hand. Quiet here in the southtowns as we await the predicted big blow for tonite and tomorrow. Could make for an interesting Bills game. For now it is me vs. the leaves and they have me badly outnumbered. Hoping that the vast majority can blow down the street. Hope that everyone has some fun things planned. Come on nphw, I need inspiration. Sabres split. Good?
Leaves verse Unckie? I'd pay to see that movie.
Friday night was a successful Fall Fest Karaoke in The Pilaf's Backyard. Fun was had by all hosting our first Live Karaoke.
Saturday we enjoyed the Elmwood Market, Elmwood Village and then Resurgence on Chicago Street.
BTW... fantastic wings!!!
Not much planned this week... Passing out candy on Thursday, that's it.
Happy Halloween!!!!!
I guess we have some scary weather hitting WNY. So, brass yourself. Batten down the hatches.
I'm guessing we have too much candy for tonight's door-knockers.
Ah yes, November, with xmas music already on the radio? Are we prepared for that? First snow of the season last nite but most of it is melting off, but a sign of things to come. Otherwise quiet here in the southtowns. Seems as if the sabres are, unfortunately, finding their true level. Let's hope that the same doesn't happen to our bills. Hope that the girls are enjoying south texas. Have a good week and travel safely to those who are.
Happy Wednesday!!!
Election Day News: The Pilafs canceled each other's votes last night, soooo there's that.
We then went to Anchor Bar afterwords for a quick bite then took Emma back to school.
No definitive plans for the rest of the week but plenty to do in Buffalo, so we'll play it by ear.
32 as I drove into work this AM. Winter is coming.
Sabres got beat up in Sweden, Bills in Cleveland, snow is on the way. Woe in WNY. Very quiet in the southtowns. Anyone heard from the travellers in south texas? Not i. I guess maybe quiet isn't all bad. Have a good week to one and all.
Brrrrr... 15 degrees yesterday. A Warmer 31 today driving into work.
No news really to report on.
Gloomy day today in NT as I sit and look out my office window.
Good morning to all. Better today than five years ago. K sent the BNews photo gallery from the storm and I have to say that it still is impressive. Altho for those of you in the northtowns you still have your memories of your october surprise. What's not to like about wny??
Our Bills continue to stay alive while the sabres continue to stumble.Preparations continue for thanksgiving while inquiring minds want to know if this is the year that nphw makes his football comeback. Thawing continues, thank goodness, and now is the time to get the ice off the sidewalk before Robert Berkum shows up. Have a good week.
The football comeback question can be put to rest. Though there is still an avid group of fans still wanting to see me sling the pigskin, rest assured, only memories and a very sketchy 8mm tape survive from those daze. I am very content being a Friday Morning QB still rubbing my tummy from the previous days conquest of cherry pie and stuffing. I still love making up stories about the glory days, how bad I was and the hangovers we brought with us to the Turkey Day Battlefield. Now it's the kids turn to live out their dreams...
A most eloquent response nphw, altho I do believe that you and pretty boy #12 are pretty close in age, but I would be the last to throw stones. We all need to know when the time has come. How about Madden? Does that count?
The Madden Team contacted me about two months ago.
Unfortunately, it was Edward Madden, and he wanted to know if I wanted to sign up for Spectrum Internet.
That is Maddening when it happens. I feel your pain.
We went from having huge plans tonight to no plans at all. Now we're just sitting around decorating the house and eating pizza. How did that happen?
And another week begins and I would suspect that it will be a short one for many. Turkey day on thursday with a bills game thrown in to make it more interesting? or perhaps annoying? we shall see. Other than getting ready, and I assume that Auntie will be working me on wed. like the proverbial rented mule, it will be a fairly quiet week. Older sister in Charleston until friday and younger sister a very low profile. Trip today to see my friendly urologist, always a pleasure, and then resuming hope that old man winter stays away. Enjoy the week all.
I waited and I waited for this moment my whole life... the 200th comment.
What a gorgeous day today, 53 and a smiling sun. Thank you Miss Buffalo! You're the best.
The 4 of us leave for Butler, PA Wednesday evening battling the winds and growling tummies.
Enjoy Thanksgiving all!!!
