A Yankee in Waiting

Not since the rookie season of Tony Lazzeri in 1926 or the arrival of Joe DiMaggio in 1936 or "The Mick" Mickey Mantle in 1951 or even on the same scale, the first pick selection of high school pitching phenom Brien Taylor in 1991, have Yankee fans been so excited about the development of a future star.

Yankee manager Joe Torre was asked about young Zachary's development and had this to say, "Can he pitch?" Needless to say we laughed, we all laughed.

That's a nice looking uniform.

Zachary understands that before he can join the big club he may have to choose a new number, because Derek Jeter's #2 will be retired.

Here, Zachary shows his skills off sliding into a second base pillow after smashing a line drive double off the wall.

He then steals third, only to be thwarted by the opposing third baseman.
He was running so fast his hat came off.

Go Yankees!!!

So far Zach has been on the Pirates and the Yankees, his two favorite teams. And to think... I played for Wurlitzer Park Village Club, Lions Club, and then finally Exchange Club in Little League and we never could keep our uniforms. What a bummer.

Best lookin Yankee I've ever seen! (Even those Red Sux fans would agree, I'm sure)

Anonymous said...

everything's great! except for the laundry. Hopefully next year the sox will pick him up in a trade.

Anonymous said...

go Zach! Excellent sliding technique.

Anonymous said...

A real dilemma -- just as I typed this the phone rang and nphw jff was on the line---and I mentioned this and he said "you may attack the laundry, but not the player in the laundry". That is it in a nutshell: the player looks GOOD! but the uni...... I concur with the team names. My history included Benman Lumber--a famous name in N. Tonawanda business history, Baker Bros. plumbing and Helf's, but that never got me any free hot dogs. Ah, memories. Phone call again from nphw and the battle for today is on, moved up to 10:50 AM. Normally we go out much earlier, but get this, jff had to, and I quote,"work to do". Honestly, has anyone ever heard that phrase from him before? A report on today's match will follow.

That is the best Yankee I have ever seen! I am sure DJ would relinguish #2 if he knew Zach wore it!!
Got a new PC at work, I am now on nanno speed! So I have been kind of out of the loop for a few days??? Always feel like I am missing something when I dont get my blog dose! Can not understand the fixxits not wantin in??
GREAT sabres game, right back at you mary belrose, or barry melrose as he goes by.. Looks a little cloudy for the links today boys??? maybe you will have to sit in the clubhouse and discuss your shots??
Trying to think of a gift for georgy for our anniversary, I am thinking of a gas grill???

oh how I wish i was playing golf. Instead I'm at Take your Child to work day. Not my work, of course -- no kids, no work. Its a long story.

I kind of got reamed by Unckie in two ways today.
1. It too, is Zach's birthday today. So Happy 10th Birthday today Zach. I'm sorry I put up a blog without mentioning his birthday. True, true, Yanks come before birthdays. Right Auntie B?
And 2. He reamed me out on the links today (fortunately enough for me, not physically, just emotionally). I had a comfortable lead going into the home stretch when he cursed me and said "nice drive", from that point on his voodoo worshipping ways took over and I double bogied the rest of the way for him to beat me by 1 stroke. Witch! Warlock! Whatever. Oh yeah, and he wore a Red Sox cap today. I thought we had rules.

Anonymous said...

KDH, we could have used you today.

Anonymous said...

Not as much fun as Palooza golf, but still An extremely pleasurable round today and the deal that I had to make with "you know who" was just a small price to pay to be able to savor victory.Damn Yankees was always one of my favorite plays. TWO birthdays to celebrate today, both my d-in-l and grand nphw. May you both have great ones, although I suspect that Zach will be a bit more comfortable celebrating his. Glad to see that auntie b is back in the circle.

Anonymous said...

Amy and Zach share a birthday!!! I think that is a first duplicate birthday we have in the family! How exciting!
Lets see I am thinking, nope no other duplicates! Happy birthday you two!!! Zach, let us know when you play, you know we would love to come see you!!!!

Anonymous said...

Happy Birthday Amy & Zachary!!
Hey!! I just got the "baby is comin' squares" envelope out & 5 bucks are missing...either someone swiped the money to play RLC that night or someone didn't buck up!! Hmmm...can't trust anyone huh... You don't think it was Gram (to hit up the lottery on the way home) was it?

Anonymous said...

I put my money in! Did you look to see if there was a IOU note placed somewhere? Maybe Emma needed lunch money?

Happy Birthday Amy and Zach!

Anonymous said...

Yes, it's great to see Auntie B back in the circle. You're sorely missed when you're away too long. The witty posts.... ummmmm... did I mention your witty posts? Anyhoo, welcome back.

What's up with Ed Norton and a swastika on his chest? What movie is that? Doesn't look like a family movie.

I'm watching (20 yr. old) Phillip Hughes pitch. Uncle George probably has him in his fantasy lineup tonight.

Anonymous said...

swastika on ed nortons chest??? mm what was that?
The only thing I would turn off the Yankee game for is the OFFICE, I absolutely laugh out loud at that show. I think Dunnder Mifflin should sponsor HOLTZAPALOOZA! Phillip Hughes!!! Great job. dang he is only 20!!!
did you see he sat right nest to DJ on the bench, so adorable!
sooo what is our prediction for tonite, 10 hours and 49 minutes... tick tick tick. so exciting.
Great re cap on the golf outing yesterday, I felt like I was there!!!
Enjoy the last friday of April, bring on May!!!

Anonymous said...

American History X...definately not a family movie, but its good, if you don't mind the swearing.

Anonymous said...

I want to hear about KDH's "take your child to work day"? Was she hosting? Did she have someone else's child? did she return said child?
Amy did you have a nice birthday?
Zach, did you have a nice birthday, your nana did'nt get you lint brushes, did she? Cuz you know she thinks that is a good gift, much like a football, is a good gift.

At three minutes and four seconds after 2 AM on the 6th of May this year, the time and date will be 02:03:04 05/06/07.

This will never happen again!

Anonymous said...

thank you all for the birthday wishes. i did have a nice day. hope your day was nice too, zach.

Anonymous said...

I plan on giving may 6 all of the attention that I paid to Y2K. Yanks have lost 6 in a row, and nothing from Georgie S? Is he still around? Is this becoming something like Weekend at Bernie's? Weekend with Steinie? Uncle Freddie and I shared the same birthday but I suspect that no longer counts. Word has it that g-nphw Zack has multiple b-day parties this weekend. That would be a much better blog to tune into than the one presently up. Same person but different linens. Go Sabres!!

Anonymous said...

What about the year 3007??? Unless you're assuming we're in the middle of the book of Revelations and it's only going to take another 500 years or so before we're all kaput.
AND what about next year when it's
03:04:05 06/07/08 ???

I had a really nice day today (not as nice as yesterday when I spent the day golfing with Unckie, but nice non the less).

GO SABRES!!! I have a growler of Buffalo Lager just waiting for me tonight.

Anonymous said...

Dear Anonymous, thank you for the update on the numerology for May.
If it does not fit into the pick 3 or pick 4 , could care less...
No "W"'s in 6, no worries, they are the NY Yankees, the worlds greatest Baseball team. Just a rough patch, we all hit 'em. GS, knows the ship will right itself.
At least no one has poured ketchup on their socks..
Go SABRES... Hexes to the rangers.

Anonymous said...

Another great night to be a sports fan named adam. At this point, I kinda feel bad for the yankees. NOT! I'm going to ride this wave of evil empire ineptitude for as long as she'll go. Its AWESOME!

Anonymous said...

Be careful Son Of Mine. We all know how quickly these things can turn around. The secret is that I go to bed with both the Sabres and RedSocks behind and then wake up to be most pleasantly surprised. Actually I had a dream last nite where I was helping Big Popi play right field in Yankee Stadium. Fortunately nothing was hit our way. A hint of manlove perhaps. Be careful not to get too much sun today, those early season sunburns can be tough.

Anonymous said...

Manlove with Big Papi??? I think I vurped.

Zach had his first b-day party today and he had a lot of fun. We played floor hockey all afternoon with his friends. I think 16 showed up, the floor was mobbed. It took all my best hockey moves to get past all 16 of them. I probably could have passed, but I felt oh so good.

Anonymous said...

I should have gone to bed at 5:30. Maybe it would have worked again. Got to go and put some aloe on my sunburn.

Anonymous said...

as I said no worries, the ship will right itself, just checkin the calendar, yup its still April!
what a grey gloomy day, how did anyone get a sunburn???
Glad to hear Zach had a good party. Sounds like nephew had fun also!
Niagara swept Marist and is tied for first in the MAAC, with vile and despicable canisus....Go Purple Eagles!
Other than that, nothin..
Tomorrow GO SABRES!!! GO YANKEES!!!

Anonymous said...

Take care of that sunburn Unckie, I don't want to hear any excuses when we meet up again on the links in May. No voodoo dolls this time either.

Go Sabres!!! Huge game in the "Big City" today at 2PM.
Where's Jnna and Jll. Awful quiet out there from them.

Anonymous said...

Yankees!!!

Anonymous said...

Seems like the same people are supporting the volume here on a daily basis. Where are the rest of the troops? Must be that those folks are keeping busy doing fun stuff. Me, my lawn cries out for attention--finally--but it does seem that there is a hockey game today, and, I guess, another baseball game. Bills draft??? Any thoughts out there? I think that they were blowing smoke about preferring Puzlxwyxwy over Mills, and I am a bit concerned about the Cal guy's rap sheet, but based upon the thug that Belichek drafted, I guess that he is a model citizen. Have a good one all. May have to go to bed at 2 pm today. My father lives!

Anonymous said...

In Marv we trust! I knew the yanks couldn't be completely inept for the whole season. But winning 5 out of 6 ain't bad.

Anonymous said...

But can they win 5 out of 6 when it counts, that my friend is the BIG difference... I will give them 5 in April. Gloating allowed only in August and september!
sun is out, sabres are on... what can be better! Oh Yea, a Yankee spanking!

Anonymous said...

did everyone see brady quinn wince every time his name was not called yesterday??? Oh that brought back bad memories of not being picked for dodge ball!

The Tiki Hut is officially open! So stop by and enjoy a wrap, salad, or smoothie.

I must admit working in EA makes me want to live out there. Maybe there is room for a baby and jenna on Grover.

I almost had the chance to go to Game 5, if there is one. It would only cost me a arm, leg, and grandma's scratch off winnings.

1-1 after regulation and a Yankees loss. At least Jeter homered (yeah fantasy team).

Great day outside.

Anonymous said...

Hockey was exhausting. At least b-ball was enjoyable.

Anonymous said...

SIGH!!!! Its Monday! Sabres lost, that game was just exhausting, I almost called off!
And my beloved Yankees :(
First of all, let me start off by saying that Taverass looks like Wes from Urban Cowboy (scott glenn) I bet he has a mesh t shirt too! And we could not hit someone with an ERA of 12! We are in a parralell universe I tell Ya!
I am sure change is in the wind, dumping Joe torre is not the answer.
How sad about that st louis pitcher..
ON a side note, happy anniversary georgy! 31 Yrs, maybe this is our year to get it right!

Hey family -- I'm back from a weekend of golf, baseball and national parks in the lovely city of Memphis TN. Ate a lot of ribs too. It was a perfect weekend!

I missed a ton of blog activity though -- whooo eeheeee!

Anonymous said...

Ah yes, Ranger fans return from the woodwork, but in actuality they have outplayed Buffalo in most of the last two games. Tomorrow will be key. Yes, my daughteris back after harrassing her poor father with an obscene phone call from the Memphis baseball game sat. evening after the poor man had gone thru the ugly weather day here. No golf today, only work. Tomorrow will be better--no work.

Seems like Rangers fans are like Red Sox fans. They're only are yappin' when they're winning.
WELL... I'm a Yankee fan, a Bills fan, and a Sabres fan. And I like the Cubs too. Now I feel lousy... someone take a shovel to my head.

Good weather is on its way. I can feel it. My knees are all tingly.

Welcome back KDH, how were those ribs?

He is 26 years old and should not be going through this.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers.

Auntie and I discovered that the Buffalo Sports Garden offers 30 cent wings, dollar drafts and modestly priced winos on Wed. afternoons. Hence, didn't get around to responding last evening. The excuse for Wed. was that I hadsubbed and needed some r and r. Rumor has it that "bourbon-swillin" daughter is making a pit stop here on her way back from NYC to Hotlanta. Weather looks good so there might be a Fri. round of golf in the offing. Have a good one all and enjoy the sunshine

What a great day outside. Let us know when KDH is in town. We'll stop in with a cooler of bourbon and sahlens.

Can Pizza Hut confirm or deny the fact that Area 54 has been a targeted landing zone for over 50 years now by our friends from Mars and other neighboring planets and galaxies? Hmmmmm... can they? I betcha the Colonel knows.

How could they destroy all of the great feelings here in WNY by airing that Clemens signed during the Sabres game. Was puzzled over how different the NYC fan reaction was compared to when he left NY 3 years ago. Wasn't there cries about his disloyalty, etc. etc? Can the activation of Ron Guidry be far behind?

Anonymous said...

Yes Jnna, the Rice's were... We'll have to hook up for a smoothie soon and catch up.

Zach had his first game today and first controversial game of the season. They won 7-6, but with two outs and two on, up by that fore mentioned one run. A sharp grounder was hit to second, who scooped it up and fired it (lobbed) it to first. The home plate ump calls the batter out (Not really his call) and the field ump yells safe as the run scores from third. After deliberation the field ump thought he dropped the ball, batter is out, game over. Hopefully there not all like that. Zach stole second on a wild pitch was his highlight of the game. He went 0-2 with a bb. He had fun playing left field.

Does anyone watch the show Wedding Crashers?

Way to go Zach! You are now "family famous" for breaking that 100 comment barrier. Speaking of controversial calls, I don't suppose that anyone was watching the Yanks game last nite with the call at second. I would hate to think that they might have a year when the calls/breaks went against them. How about them Bisons?? Look at those comebacks. 8 runs down in the 9th inning and they win. The "yin and yang" of NYC in the west end of the state. I will take it!!
