Our Roadtrip To The Nantahalla (NOC)

One of the many pulloffs to get a great picture
A first:
My first blog using just pictures from my phone.  Who knew that I could join this crazy thing we call technology.  Here's the Nantahalla River, taken from my Aunt and Uncles favorite place to eat.  We arrived to a beautiful day and enjoyed a nice meal.
When I woke up in the morning (first of course) I was always greeted by deer eating my uncles feed that he leaves out.

We had a wonderful time enjoying the NC mounttains, white water rafting and Emma got to go on a ride on my Uncles spider.

We enjoyed the evenings, after I made up a fire, talking and spening time with my aunt and uncle.

We went back to the Nantahalla River for one last dinner.

Off to Rick's in Asheville for a Tourist game at historic McCormick Field.

The kids got to call out the players numbers in the press box for one inning when they came to bat.

The stadium was old but in really nice condition.

Both kids had a REALLY good time at the game.

This picture is out of order, but basically Zach slept no matter where we went.

Rick let the kids stay up in the press box for most of the game and call out names on the PA.  Emma really liked doing that.

Off to West Virginia at the Pipestem Resort.  Here's the view from our balcony.

Sandra and I went dinner and their restaurant and both had the seafood buffet.  Delish.  Here's the view from our table.

Then we went back to our room and had a few drinks out on our deck.  We stayed there for most of the night.

Emma's first night of confirmation for 8th grade. By the end of the year she'll be a confirmand. Her parents on the other hand will keep their streak alive by going out and having a beer every time she goes to church. Tonight we were at Shannon's Pub enjoying a Guinness and a RedBridge.

Great new blog! Good to see that at least some people are doing interesting things, plus even finding time to stop for an adult beverage or two. Thanks to the Pilafs for keeping it interesting. Enjoy your Friday. Go Bills!

Betsy said...

OMG a new blog! When work gets too busy for a new blog, you need to quit work!!! Great job! Beautiful pictures!
thanks nphw for keeping this blog chugging along!
moving friday along, just waiting for the weekend!

JT said...

Happy Friday!
What a gorgeous fall day. You could'nt ask for anything better.
So, tonight we're off to a bar to watch my friends son's band play. I think that's one of the signs that I'm getting old.

Rain! Holy washout Batman. It started at 5a here and I can't believe how much and how heavy it was coming down. Good thing I cleaned the gutters. So, today's AIM Festival might be a washout. If not, Joe Bellanti is playing at 2. Try and see him.

UGH to Monday! Great things about the weekend, hellooo, it was the weekend!, Niagara Hose Chowder on saturday, and after that nothing!
What a pitiful pathetic bills game, nice tribute to Mariano, but they could not pull out a win, and it did not rain on Sunday. After that it is all up hill this week at work, almost month end, which means lots of work! enjoy today!

hi family! Just checking in and saying hi. I will share that I typed "Holtz family christmas" in the wrong spot in my browser, and THIS link came up. Who knew we had such talented family?

JT said...

That's so your dad. He's Christmas crazy.
I really don't want to work this week.

Betsy said...

Extremely busy at work this week, with some prep work for some accreditating agency, blah blah blah
I forgot to give my mom her credit card back on Sunday after grocery shopping and had to stop at her house and give it to her, I am just going out on a limb and saying the Holtz Children that do not take gramma to the podiatrist, should be eternally grateful to the sibling that does! Love my mom, but a 20 minute conversation about uncutable toe nails and her hammer toes, were too much! Thank you to my sister, for taking this task on!
I never feel like working, when the sun is out, which it is today!
Work with a gal who is letter of the law, and she retires next Friday, 10/04- too funny, as she has checked out! And really does not care about anything! Total opposite of what she has been for years!
Its only Tuesday, still kind of far from Friday!

Betsy said...

Re looking at Jff's blog, seems so very nice, kind of wish I was there versus sitting at my desk!
Have not heard from the OP Holtz's in a few, all still good?? I am quessing?
so a school bus driver in Niagara Falls shut the bus door on a 6 year olds hand, and dragged her and her mom for a few feet before he realized they were caught, hoping its not my brother!
Day 2 of our survey, UGH
Enjoy this fall day!

Wed. and back at work, but this is the last class day until next Wed. On the downside, I will be here sunday and Monday evening, but all I have to do is stand around and act charming and that comes really easily, right? Gotta find a way to access that website dear daughter stumbled on. Sabres-Leafs big on sportscenter; Bills, not so much. So will EJ be the next Peyton? I am guessing no. Should the Bills have taken Geno? So many questions, so few answers. I hope hammer toes don't run in the family. What a wonderfully descriptive name for a body part, hammertoes. Right up there with "crows feet". Take care.

JT said...

Ewow! You guys are busy. Well, we got a new toy last night and boy was it warm. What could it be? Sandra ordered a patio heater online. She's crazy like that. I put it together and we used all night last night. Yeah!!!

Betsy said...

Love those heaters! Is it like the one at the Silo??? Anything to extend outside time, I agree!
So the Yankees are done, I have no interest in the Sabres what so ever! Ron Ralston, looks like the chess club captain at a charter school! And the bills, to many broked promises! think I will be taking up Macrame! Note to all, pirate gift will be a 6ft long plant hanger! Other than that, its thursday, and waiting til I can say its Friday!

Betsy said...

Attended a very nice retirement dinner for a co worker last evening, got home just in time to see Andy Pettite call for the right hander! I think we yankee fans are in for a long drought of average baseball from our bombers!
Cano wanting over 300 mil??? really? Who is going to play position players that much money, not hank and hal! Grateful its friday been a long trying work week! Enjoy today and all that it brings!

unk said...

Chess club captain at a charter school? My sister is on top of her game with vivid descriptions this morning. Just talking with the Atlanta Holtz who is in the middle of plans for next weekend. Lets hope that we don't need a patio heater down there. Looks like I will be joining the OP Holtzes at the UB game tomorrow. A first for me. Can't call them UB can I. Hate to admit that even I was a bit taken by the Mariano thing last nite. He and Jorge were class acts and always made it more difficult to hate the Yankees. Difficult yes, impossible no. I think they should give Cano $400 million to avoid a bidding war and while they are at it they should extend Arod by another 10 years and an additional 275m. That's what I would do if I were in charge. Anyone else going to take the Bills and 3 pts. on Sunday? I think that I will Mo today. Hey, now that is funny. Enjoy

JT said...

Cool, we'll see ya at the UB game. It's always a fun time and you can't beat today's weather.

unk said...

Leave it to my son the organizer. This will be my first UB? Buffalo? game. Should I wear my UCONN hat? Guess that I had better not. It is indeed a beautiful day today. Enjoy it.

JT said...

UB game was hot and fun. And they killed UConn, go figure. It was great to see Unckie, Adm, and Oliver.
Today we did our open house rounds with Miss Emma at The Mount and Sacred Heart. Both schools were very nice. Emma liked both and really appreciated the extra attention that her Uncle Chuck gave her.

unk said...

Very busy weekend as per nphw jffs account. Such a blast seeing the all grown up nc emm "kicking the tires" as she auditions schools. UB and our Bills both winners the same weekend? Had to be that Olvr attended both. Early in tonite to see GG and, if her stomach is back in order, to get some early din-din before phase two of open house. Started the day in OP at 7 AM to walk Olvr to school. A little dreary but dry. Keep the faith.

October 1st. Fighting a losing battle with a cold. Team Koch will be making a strong push as we head towards the finish line this month.
November 5th is Election Day and I may extend this invitation a few times but you are all invited at the American legion on Election night to see the results. We still have plenty of time to go and so much ground to cover. But, hopefully this will be a successful month for our team.

Betsy said...

October 1, Wow we got here in record time! So the govt has shut down, hope no one is going to a National Park!!! Much to my Brother In Law's displeasure, mail service will not be interrupted!
So not sure if everyone is aware, but David and his girlfriend, Sheri had a baby boy on Saturday.
They named him Tristan David, and he has had a rough start in life. Sheri was discharged from the hospital, but Tristan was not. He has been a pretty sick little boy, but on the road to recovery, as he is still in the hospital. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, that he comes home soon!
David, has posted pix on FB, so everyone can meet him.
Other than that, prayers for him most appreciated!
Keep the faith today that we are all doing the right thing!

unkie said...

Hope that all goes well for nphw dvd and the little one. They will all be kept in our thoughts and prayers. If the govt is shut down, I'm not leaving the house today. oh yeh, forgot, have to get tto the airport to pick up Amy, Ben and audrey as they return from their trip to NE. Looks like GG is on the mend. She had her chicken sandwich last nite and now has stamps. Other than the fact that some family is moving enmasse into Luther Manor, all is well. 5 weeks until election. Here's hoping for a nice weather atlanta weekend.

JT said...

Thoughts and prayers go out to Tristn.
Gov't shut down... Does anything really change?
Then again maybe it does. My computer stopped working today and so did I. Incredible that I can't do any paperwork.

Betsy said...

happy thursday, or in my world non pay day! UGH to that.
so lots going on: Tristan update, so the hospital that Tristan was born in, really was not equipped to handle a sick new born, so he was transferred late last night to a New Born ICU in Orlando. So continued prayers, and thoughts for David and Sherri. And hopefully his infection will clear up and he can go home!
Sad to see Cleveland go down last night, but kudos to Tampa Bay, they just keep rolling!
I see Dante Whitner wants to change his name to Dante Hitner? He says his mom said it was OK! I wonder if my mom will let me change my name?
The Bills play tonight, I know I know me too! Other than that, we have been so lucky with such beautiful fall days, havent we!!!
have a great day!

JT said...

Sandra and I did our Awanaing at Deerwood tonight. Pretty good.
Bills! Kiko!

Pretty quiet weekend on the blog with all of the people out of town. Can't recall the last time I spent so much time sitting on a lounge chair. Lots of fun, lots of good food, and I think there were also a few beverages mixed in too. Thank you darling daughter for working as hard as you did to make everyone's time enjoyable. Thank goodness I have two days to catch up on my sleep. With four baseball games today, I see a lot a chair time. Yucky, wet, windy day.

Sndra said...

Emma missed seeing Unkie while shadowing at MSM today.

unk said...

Hope that Emma had a good day on her visit to the Mount. I work on alternate mondays, which I forgot when I saw her. Off today too, which is a good thing. enjoy

Jenna Koch said...

Wow! We have been busy! 27 days to go. I feel like this is the countdown to Christmas. We will have a nice article in the tonawanda source this weekend. We have met very wonderful people. Looking forward to November 5th!

Betsy said...

A little less than four weeks til election day!! Who knew! there was a plea made on FB for volunteers to do a lit drop, short for literature drop, and seems like the first person with her hand up was Gramma! If someone will push her in the wheelchair! All kidding aside, Jnna has developed quite the work force of volunteers! Impressive! Show of hands? Who thinks the Sabres will go 0-? whatever number of games they play this season?? Watched only a few minutes of last nights game! poor passing, no leadership, no guts to go into the corner, horrible officiating! UGH Again, taking up macrame to keep busy! Sharing my attitude of gratitude today, as Mr Tristan will be released from the Hospital this afternoon, thank you all for prayers, support, hugs and love!
Enjoy the day!

Betsy said...

happy thursday! Or Friday eve, as it is sometimes called! So this morning on the radio they were talking about possibly 5 bills games being blacked out, and they wanted to know why fans arent going to the games? really? They dont know? Wishing we were related to the lady that gave 11 million to the art gallery!!
Mr Tristan, finally came home yesterday afternoon after 10 days in the NICU, needless to say his parents our overjoyed! Thanks again for everyone's prayers, as they worked!!! Must be where the term power of prayer came from!
Rumor has it cookie is proofreading gramma's letters to Obama, good to know punctuation and spelling have been reviewed!
News story that survivor death benefits of military personel have been suspended, but Congress's gym remains open! Who can make us such absurdity! UGH to Pittsburgh losing, and not sure who to root for tonight, Detroit or Oakland, just want the winner to beat the sux! Enjoy today and all that it brings your way!

Betsy said...

Kind of glad its friday... who am I kidding I am elated its friday!
So Mr Tristan spent his first nite at home, uneventful, eat and slept! We like uneventful!
I was kind of hoping for an A's /St Louis world series, because seriously who would care? guess that wont be the case.
My nephew called and noted he has a snwblwr for geo, is it really that time? I quess..
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all our relatives, friends and neighbors to the north. Trader Joes opens today, not sure that is news worthy, but channel 2 thinks it is. Campaing rolling along. dont forget the debate coming up!
One last comment on what a bust the sabres are! Pretty sure no one is buying up the bills tickets, so the first black out of the league belongs to the bills, nice touch! On to feel good news, ( sound of crickets chirpping) got nothing!
Remember everything you do, affects someone else! So no cutting in line today people!

JT said...

What? What!
We're have I been?
We are enjoying this beautiful weather with the help of our patio heater at night. Is that cheating? Nahhhhhh...
No major plans this weekend. Relax and work outside today. Tomorrow, Bills on the radio. Thank goodness it's going to be nice out.

unk said...

The plague has struck 1070. Looks like Auntie and I will be babysitting today with our chinese face masks.

UGH to Monday, UGH to big pappyslappy hitting a grandslam
UGH to horrible bills defense! It was a nice weather weekend! Had anastasia over for chicken sandwich's yesterday, I know I know chicken sandwich! Feel better UC & AP! Left to get gramma's groceries when the bills were down by 14, came home to see they were in OT! So its confirmed, I should never watch them!
Its Monday, not to much else to say other than its Monday

JT said...

Ooh sorry you guys are feeling yucky, get well soon.
Some old lady pulled out right in front of me.... No accidents for my 30 years of driving and now two in one year. Aaaaarghhhhhh...
Thank goodness I have a truck and she had an itty bitty Chevy econocar. Just scratches... I'm not even fretting about it.

Jenna Koch said...

3 weeks tomorrow! I can't believe it! Where has the time gone? very busy month and our campaign has been non stop. We have some volunteers helping out this week, doing a lit drop for us.
We will be working around the clock from now to Election Day. Hope everyone has ay great Tuesday! Hope you feel better AP and UC!

Betsy said...

The law of averages catches up with all of us sooner or later, and I guess that also includes car accidents! So stuck in traffic this AM, UGH, and I even left earlier than usual!! So got my overdose of sports talk radio, and there is a report out of Toronto, that Sabres Brass are upset about the teams 0 fer start and are looking to make a change??? Really, could it be there milk toast coach? Inept incompetent GM??? More to come on that! So last night compliments of the candidate, cookie and I took in the opening night performance of Ghost! First had dinner, at the Lodge, new restaurant on Chippewa, very good and Ghost was very good, different! but good! The campaign is heating up!! Thank you to everyone for your help and support!
On to Victory!! Who was the candidate that screamed on stage, and on to and then named a bunch of States that had upcoming primaries?? Yea that guy
Have a great Wed, according to my calenday it is the beginning of the Cuban Missile Crisis, in case anyone wants to send a card.
Play nice everyone!

Jenna Koch said...

19 days to go! We have a major lit drop planned for this weekend. If anyone has some free time and would like to volunteer a hour or so, walk and drop my letter to homes. The campaign is starting to heat up with my opponent calling me "fake." No one knows me better than my family and I'm certainly not "fake." So excited that it's Thursday! Busy day ahead, work, campaign. Thank you all so much!

JT said...

Gooooood morn in' ! Man, it's warm outside. Took the garbage out and ran back in to throw on my shorts and sandals.
Wee is coming to a close which brings us to UB football on Saturday. They're crushing every opponent on their way to a MAC championship.

Betsy said...

This seems like the longest work week known to man! Am struggling to make it to Friday! Happy belated boss's day out there to all boss's. does anyone think Bruce Springsteen gets cards on Boss's day? Just a thought..
Hope AP & UC are over the bubonic plaque, everyone at work is either coughing or sneezing the whole second floor of Larkin smells like Halls cough drops! So something is going around.
So the Sabres top brass are saying that Darcy is their man, if he cant do it no one can! One rumor I wish was true! Ej out for another 6 weeks? I am thinking that is not a good sign? Other than that lots of campaign work to do! under 3 weeks til election day! And the Govt is back in business! What a bunch of clowns! Have a great day, and dont take any wooden nickels!

Betsy said...

It is Friday, hip hip hooray!
You know I feel my posts are getting a little stale? Same ole same ole, sabres stnk and yes they still do, weather, the bills, blah blah blah. so I am going to switch it up today! Niagara Hose is having chowder this weekend if anyone is interested? Sweetest Day is saturday, someone said that is only a WNY thing?? Other than that not to much else to report on
Mr Tristan seems to have turned the corner and is doing much better!
Keep the faith!

JT said...

A Bills Win? Whhhhaaaat? That's crazy. Yep. And I watched it too... Ok I yelled at the TV every now and then. But in the end they beat the hated Dolphins. My Thad jersey is ordered and I'll wear proudly during next weeks game.
Thad!!!

unk said...

I think that I am back from "the brink", but at my age a hangnail can take me there. I attribute my recovery in part to baseball and the way that the playoffs are going,(I know who everyone is rooting for) and to a lesser extent our beloved Bills and UB bulls. I thought that I saw nphw jff among the 14 people in the stands at the sat. game. Was that you nphw? Glad to hear that things are improving down florida way. It appears that Auntie is slowly mending too. The full job jar for me is my evidence at hand. 2 weeks until election? Mom said that she volunteered to go door to door yesterday but sat in the car turning the Bills game on and off as the ebb and flow went on. Looks like some sun today but I won't see it.

Unkie and auntie P said...

Happy, happy birthday, dear Jill. Happy birthday to you!

Betsy said...

Happy Belated Birthday to my baby girl! 30! Wow, where did those 30 years go! they flew by in a NYC second! I hope her birthday was amazing as 30th birthdays should be!
So was at Buffalo general yesterday, and way to busy to wish her happy birthday yesterday, so hoping a day late is OK
First things first, mmm World Series, a big fat yawn! who cares!
Thrilled the Pats lost on a ref's call and they won the week before on a no call! Karma, always catches up to you!
Felt bad for Peyton? show of hands?
bills won. thoughts on the New Orleans game??? Sabres, what is left to say about them?
Other than that, some weather people are mentioning the S word this week! EEEKKK
I did have my mother out campaigning on Sunday, and she did have fun! Kind of slow on the door to door literature drop, no no I did not have her do that, she sat in the car and listened to the bills game! So on Sunday, she bragged to me that she had won 2$! So I said to her how did you win 2$, and Laverne, challenged her knowledge on the number of Bills wins. Laverne insisted they only had one win, and my mother knew they had 2! So she bet the women that brings her Holy Communion that she was right! anyone else see anything wrong with this picture??? Its Tuesday and 2 weeks from today is election day! Be nice today!

unkie said...

These last few mornings have been way too reminiscent of w....., a word I can't even bring myself to say. Only good news is how great the World Serious started. How bad can the Sabres be? Are they officially out of the playoffs yet? I guess that nobody has much of anything. I certainly don't. Keep your heads up.

JT said...

Happy belated Birthday Jll. I hope you enjoyed your day.
Sandra's home. I'm happy now.

Betsy said...

thrilled its friday, lots of goings on at work, which make for long and longer work days, ugh! Had dinner with our awesome austin last night, he is doing great, targeting the spring to start college. But doing great he is working part time and sleeping, and helping with the campaign. So we are now in debate prep mode. so if you have any questions twitter them to jnna. tomorrow night is jll's belated birthday party, and I am trying to come up with a signature drink for her 30th, I am just thinking beer? Thoughts?
Other than that just living for the weekend! Play nice, and remember the way to grow the economy is spend spend spend not save save save - Barack Obama

JT said...

We had a wonderful time at North Country Brewery last night. Great food and good beer. I had the Mothers Milk Stout and Stonehouse Stout, both we're relish. They unfortunately don't make GF beer so Sandra was forced to drink wine, the local Cab wasn't very good.
Go Bills!

Betsy said...

So tonights the night! (visual affect should be the dad from Christmas storry doing the jig when his major award arrives) drawing on blank on the old mans name! So the big debate is tonight, our biggest worry, is Jnna describing the remnants of Tonawanda Coke Emmissions, and having to say black ash! Pray for her! Work has been work. Had GG out campaigning on Sunday. Bills lost Sabres lost, cards lost..
Have a great tuesday all.

JT said...

Yeah!!!
That's how I'm going to begin everything from now on; With a big ol' yeah!
Good luck Jnna!

;unk said...

Not sure where this week is going. Wed. already? Tomorrow trick or treating and then november. How did the debate go? We need an update. Talked to Mom on sunday and she spoke of her contribution to the campaigning. Nothing much going on in the southtowns. Baseball does seem to be continuing and I know that everyone is watching. Enjoy.

JT said...

Man, it's really raining outside. I might have to rethink my Halloween costume tonight and go with something a bit more repellent.

JT said...

How can the Zbills lose that game? They outplayed them, out-gained them had the ball longer? Incredible. We need a QB.
Busy, busy week, this week. St. joes parent/ college thingy tonight. UB game tomorrow night, Wednesday meeting, Thursday something, and whew, Friday. Wowza!

JT said...

Woohoo!!! I ve got a cousin in politics. Awesome job Jnna we knew you could do it. But this is about me getting that $150, 000.00 / year driver job. Thanks Jnna.
I promise not to hit anything... Well too much.

JT said...

Loved going to the Lagerhaus 95 tonight. Nice,, nice place. That you EA Holtzs for letting the OP Holtzs enjoy an evening out. The food was good, the beer was better. Always a good sign that management cares about their customer. And Sandra got her Gluten Free beer!

Last 5 comments, I should get a repeat badge or something. Fun, long weekend. Zachary was in NYC and Emma spent Friday and Saturday night at her friends house... Very wired.
Bills stunk. BUT we have a new front window, so unrelated but it makes me happy.
